WBB 2025-2026 Season Thread

Husker Women host Samford at 5 pm. TV on BTN+.

Samford was 12-19 last season and has played only one game this season, beating NCAA Division II Montevallo, 75-53.

Pregame Notes

Since I couldn't watch any ESPN college football ( ), I had the women's game on while doing some things around the house. A good showing against what looked like lesser competition. Petrie with 20 and Hargrove with a double-double gives me optimism that losing the low[post presence of Markowski might not be as bad as I thought it could be. (FYI - my wife has season tickets to Iowa WBB, so I go with her to most of the games...their low-posts are going to be a massive challenge as usual).

when Potts gets back this team will compete with everyone in the B1G

I like your optimism! But, having sat through the entire Big Ten Womens' Tournament in Indy last year, this team has some holes... a presence inside, somehow who can drive to the basket, and a defensive stopper. If the threes fall, any game is winnable; but, teams that live by the three are inconsistent from game-to-game.

I watched the Creighton game, and the broadcasters were pretty good so I didn't do what I usually do and listen to Matt & Jeff's call of the game via streaming. Anybody know what happened to Logan Nissley and Emily Fisher?

Logan's injury looks concerning because she was wearing a boot. There wasn't anything obviously wrong with Emily, so hopefully she'll be back quickly.

In case people didn't listen to the BTN broadcasters, the best Bench Mob in the country is back! Allison will be the Mob Boss this year, with Natalie Potts as her Underboss. Just like when Whitney ran the Bench Mob a few years ago, there are practices Aliison and Natalie organize for this. I love the fact the team's doing this again. I really do think it helps the culture and winning. Plus it gives injured players like Allison an important job to do even though they're unable to play.

Britt will take the ball to the hole, she's got no fear. Against Creighton, she had one drive where she went up with two hands still on the ball like she wanted to dunk it like MJ. I also think Kennadi can be a threat to take the ball to the hole like Sam Haiby would do before her knee injury. Kennadi is fast.

The BTN broadcasters also pointed out Kennadi's got more assists so far this year than Amy had in her first two years as a Husker. They mentioned that they hoped Kennadi "reminded" her Mom about that.

As for an inside presence, Petra's improved, and hopefully Emily Fisher won't be out injured too long. Once Potts is back, I think they'll be more than okay inside.

Forgot to mention that the "defensive stopper" on the outside is Callin Hake. She's the best defensive guard in the conference, and IMO one of the best in the country. Before last season, she apparently went to "point guard school" taught by Jaz. Whatever Jaz helped her on worked, because I don't think any guard in the conference took more charges than Callin. Toward the end of the season, her outside shot seemed to "come back" too, and that's continued into this year.

I'm still liking your optimism; but, feeling like maybe you're not watching many of the other teams in the Big Ten?

All of the points you've mentioned are definitely accurate compared to last year's team/player performance. But, switch over from NFL to the U Conn/Ohio State game today and see what you think of Ohio State's Kennedy Cambridge for defensive guard play. I'm also interested to see more of Maryland's Oluchi Okananwa (transfer from Duke) as well.

I'm still skeptical that the inside play will match up well against many of the Big Ten teams, even with Potts back. I'll be happy to eat crow if your assessment is better than mine.

Well, the team can score! Not sure how representative this game is; but, scoring 103 means the ball is going through the hoop.

Same opinion ---
and good to see Maupin score 17.
