Story on Walter Pitchford...

As the year went on, Pitchford made it a point to have a bigger role down low for NU, and his production took a noticeable jump as a result. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native was at his best down the stretch, ending as just one of three Huskers to average double digits with 10.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per in conference play. He also scored 10 or more points in 11 of NU's final 14 games of the season, averaging 11.0 points on 53-percent shooting from the field.

Pitchford said a major part of his new dedication to playing in the paint has been a bigger emphasis than ever in the weight room. Already one of the strongest players on the team last season, the 6-11, 237-pound Pitchford said he's bumped his bench press max up to 305 pounds to go along with a running vertical leap that was last measured at 42 inches.

While teammate Terran Petteway earned most of the attention, and understandably so, Nebraska's emergence last season was due to the Cornhuskers' entire lineup. And after sitting out a year following his transfer from Florida, Walter Pitchford made sure to get involved as much as possible.

The 6'10" Pitchford was one of the best-shooting big men in the country from three-point range in 2013-14, hitting 41 percent of his 117 attempts while also nailing 54.1 percent from inside the arc. A solid rebounder with good hands, he only turned the ball over 5.7 percent of the time, which ranked seventh-best in the nation.

Love reading this. No doubt Pitchford will be one of the key players for the team. Very versatile player that can create matchup problems for the opposition.

With his size and touch, I think he has a future in the show! I look for a monster year out of him. You could see him get more comfortable last year. Can't wait for that first alley oop throw down!!
