This is probably our most talented over all team since 2009. Let's hope this team goes out and wins 9 or 10 games with a very difficult schedule.

I don't think we've been attracting top talent for 2 decades.

But we all think we are, due to "We're Nebraska."

A lot of almost upsets between that Michigan State game and now. A big time upset would feel good, for sure. I'd also settle for just beating the teams we should be and not getting upset or blowout by teams we shouldn't.

Rhule hasn't impressed me in that area. He hasn't even put any innovative trick plays on the field. Coach Osborne had one per game at least ready. And they rarely failed.

But Rhule's biggest problem is he is predictable. He followes "The Book" when it comes down to when to pass, run the ball, etc. He never does the unexpected (unless the unexpected is something stupid unfortunately).

Osborne also seemed to know what the other team was going to do. He even made those predictions based on weaknesses he saw. I've seen no evidence of Rhule doing that.

(And for God's sake Matt Rhule, NEVER COACH A GAME WITH YOUR HAT ON BACKWARD, EVER AGAIN!)

Second bolded, that was practice. I know it is hard to keep it straight when there is so much to complain about.

The Las Vegas Bowl, where we got destroyed by an unmentionable program from an unmentionable conference. The hat wasn't a good look for our program, to be sure. Pretty certain we won't be accepting these types of bowl invitations in the future. We are too good. :Rockon:

Offense:
We have the best Oline talent we have had since the Pelini years.
We have very good WR/TE rooms.
RB room has potential, but unproven.
QB room is one man deep but he is perfect for our OC's system.
We have the best coaches for our offense in 20 years.

Defense:
D-line very good potential on the edges.
D tackles have not been proven to stop the run at the BIG level, major problem
LB and DB groups look very good; can they play together, only time will tell.
We have very good D coaches.

ST:
We sent away the best ST coach we have had in a decade, who took us from 94th to 3rd in one season. This was the HC;s decision to let this happen.
With most games being one score games save for the teams which will blow us out (OSU, Indiana, Oregon) the impact of ST on field position and scoring opportunities is immense.
This is the single biggest change from last year and worth art least two wins, just ask Iowa, they count on ST for two or more wins each season.

Intangibles:
Clock management
Use of time outs
TURNOVERS
Halftime adjustments

HCMR is 66-62 and 2-22 against Top 25 teams.
He made major changes this off season in his coaching staff and team so if ever there was a chance to change both of these stats (.500 coach, not able to beat Top 25 teams) this needs to be the year he shows he knows how to do those things.
Or: "I am what I am and that's all what I am......."

All I’m saying is NU has a lot of opportunities in front of them. I’m NOT suggesting they will win either of those games. Hell, to me, it’ll be more of the same until they decide they decide losing sucks. Coaches on down. They do have a lot of opportunities again this year. Will/can they take advantage and breakout? They have a good enough roster to go and beat some people.

Just having some fun. I actually agree with you. They'd better believe they've got a shot at winning those games or they shouldn't be on the field.
 
I don't know that Osborne's recruiting classes were ever particularly prolific? But he had a system of player development starting freshman year, where they ended up as starters their junior and senior years.

A friend of a friend of mine is a gentleman named Bill Bobbora, who graduated my high school and played OL at Nebraska 1985-89. During the recruitment process, Coach Osborne allegedly told him something along the lines of "You'll play on the freshman team your freshman year, redshirt your sophomore year, special teams and 2 deep your redshirt sophomore year, alternate and special teams your junior year, and start your senior year."

That's about how it worked out I believe. A system that worked, but a system whose time has passed. Canning Solich crashed the system maybe 15 years early.
