NU under Rhule hasn't beaten a top 25 team.
The last time NU did so was in 2016 against a #22 Oregon team that finished outside the top 25 that year.
In 2015, NU beat #6 Michigan State, which finished the year at #6.

Here are the preseason rankings for Big Ten teams, from various sources. I look at this and thinks it's going to take an accident to break the current trend. (Nebraska opponents in red.)

I answered a question. I never said NU was doing anything. Need to see it first. Opportunity is there for them, ample. Will they finally take advantage of that? No idea, but history says no. If Rhule has learned how to coach in game, studied, got better, maybe NU can break thru? Take it however you wish, I simply don’t give a damn.

Oregon plays @USC, bye week then hosts UCLA before NU and then travels to Illinois.

Washington hosts Iowa, then plays at Purdue, bye week and then at NU before hosting PSU.

I would say the schedule gods makes Indiana the most likely upset candidate.

Cignetti not gonna let that happen. They may drop off some but won’t be loosing to Nebraska any time soon.

Let's start with a top 25 opponent first. Something he hasn't done since Temple, and those were the likes of I believe Eastern Carolina and Navy.

But I think the wildcard here is Holgerson. He has a QB that fits what he wants to do. If the offense starts clicking, it's the type that can beat an opponent that may be better on paper.

That first play can not come soon enough to stop the doom and gloom talk of preseason.

Let's play a few games and either confirm the doom and gloom, or (hopefully) laugh at the purveyors of the doom and gloom.

Do we have the material to compete against tOSU, Oregon, and Indiana? I think we don't. Perhaps Iowa and Washington.
 
Would you take a win agains Iowa if it meant losing to Oregon and Ohio St or a victory over Oregon and Ohio State if it mean losing to Iowa?

Disagree! We haven’t been losing year after year to IA because of lessor talent imo. We darn sure however have had lessor coaching imo... We've had higher rated recruiting classes than IA, year after year as we lose to them year after year. Nebraska has consistently recruited in the Top third of the BIG with little to show for it. How many games have we lost to teams because of poor/stupid coaching decisions? I’ve been optimistic year after year only to be disappointed with the end results. This is probably our most talented over all team since 2009. Let's hope this team goes out and wins 9 or 10 games with a very difficult schedule.

Because of NIL, most of the P2 and much of the ACC and BIG12 have some of their best talent in years as well.
 
First, they must win, then the elite players will come. It is a chicken or the egg question. So it goes back to what most on this thread agree on...coaching. Game management. Rhule hasn't impressed me in that area. He hasn't even put any innovative trick plays on the field. Coach Osborne had one per game at least ready. And they rarely failed.

But Rhule's biggest problem is he is predictable. He followes "The Book" when it comes down to when to pass, run the ball, etc. He never does the unexpected (unless the unexpected is something stupid unfortunately).

Osborne also seemed to know what the other team was going to do. He even made those predictions based on weaknesses he saw. I've seen no evidence of Rhule doing that.

(And for God's sake Matt Rhule, NEVER COACH A GAME WITH YOUR HAT ON BACKWARD, EVER AGAIN!)
