Little change from the August 2, 2024 version.

LONG VERSION
The median guess for UTEP changed from 9 to 10. This is for predictions through August 27, 2024.

Average: NU 40 - UTEP 9
Median: NU 38 - UTEP 10

Nebraska Victory: 137 entries
UTEP Victory: 0 entries

PROOF THAT CORNHUSKER FANS ARE RATIONAL:
1. The NU average is only 2 points higher than the median. This means that there are fewer "NU 77 - UTEP 0" projections. Maybe it takes only 20 years for reality to set in to a fanbase?

2. The "Vegas Spread" was about 28, which is close to the spread of both the average and median above. Again, maybe reality is seeping into fan projections? Or possibly Vegas knows Nebraska fans needing a higher spread to put down the farm mortgage money? Let me know.

3. The average of our to pay-to-play games last year (NIU and LaTech) was NU 32 - Opp 12. This is close to the 40 - 9 average. For certain values of "close".

PROOF THAT CORNHUSKER FANS ARE IRRATIONAL:
1. We held the opposing team to 9 or less twice last year (Illinois and Northwestern).

2. We scored 40 points or more zero times last year.

Statistical Note:
1. The average is above the median as is customary in datasets with a lower bound. If you don't believe me, go back to the 1970s, get a degree in math with a concentration in statistics, and then we can talk.

Here is an excellent review of the Miners from there local media.

They are excited about their new coach and a significant influx of Austin Peay talent.

I was interested to see that they run a 3-3-5 defense.

This should be an advantage for our young QB's as they will have seen more of this than any other system in spring ball/fall camp.

The Miners also want to be a "run heavy" offense and although they have a very nice FCS All American transfer, they will be relying on Autin Peay transfers in the O-line and will be going into our strength, the D-line so again, helpful for our opener.

Historically bad program. Miners hasn't won a bowl game since late '60s.

Spread .... Huskers by 27.5 points. Probably increase points at kickoff time.

Yes, and we were a historical terrific football program but that was in the last century.

If you look at what they have done in the off season, we are really playing Austen Peay.

For a glimpse at what that may be like, look at the last four years or so of this wiki link.

I don't think UTEP will beat us (unless we are minus 5 in turnovers, eek) but this is not going to be the walk over we anticipate because this is NOT so much UTEP but closer to Austen Peay.

Oh by the way we all are anticipating starting a true freshman QB (Damn good one!) for a team that has not had a winning season since 2016 (That would be us, you know.......).

Was in El Paso this weekend and most of those I talked with are excited about the new coach and a fresh start. For the most part they want to see improvement and how the team reacts to adversity. The new coach has been very busy in the community and seems to have gained a lot support and good will. Oh, and got to watch the soccer team beat Miami.

Way off subject , but I remember it used to be kind of a joke to say something happened in the last century. First few years after 2000 the last century had just finished. It was a bit like when you leave work the last work day in December and tell your buddies you'll see them next year! Not really much time at all.

Now we're almost a QUARTER of the way through the next century! Anyone less than 48 years old has lived more in this century than the last one!

I talk to people every day who are likely to be alive in the next century. (And who don't appreciate it, btw. :). )

This passage of time thing is getting kind of serious. I wonder if we could just call timeout and have the calendar stop for a couple of years in here somewhere. Nothing permanent. Just so I can get my bearings and such.

I had a nightmare a couple nights ago where we were ahead late 4th QTR 9 to 7 with them driving past midfield and the alarm woke me up. Messed up my morning. I don’t need this type of stress. We need to win this game decisively and have the game put away early.
