Mozee converted multiple 1st downs in clutch situations. It is awesome that he's our *3rd* RB. Kudos to him and Barthel. I haven't felt this good about the RB room since we had Helu, Burkhead, and Ameer at the same time.

Our RB room is extremely average.

Last year EJ had the ability to make a defender miss. He’d jump cut or simply be strong enough to break that first tackle attempt.

Opposing LBs are eating our lunch because ( aside from Rule) we don’t have the ability to make them miss. We are not running through anyone, we are not running over anyone and we are not making anyone miss. 101 yards on 26 attempts not counting AC … 3.8 yards per carry.

I'm going to have to strongly disagree with this. Go back and watch the highlights

3.8 yards per carry guarantees a first down every three runs doesn’t it?

Our best RB was out and our second best back was a game-time decision, but played a little (and I'm guessing they were protecting him a bit). So we were pretty sure rushing was gonna be a struggle yesterday. Mozee did pretty well, I thought.

But the RBs have been much better than I expected before the injury bug hit. It's hard to replace an All-American. And the O-line is a bit better . . . but they are still not great and it's gonna be a process to clean up Uncle Donnie's mess and the mess created by previous meh O-line coaching.

I’d like to see less of anyone not named McDougle or Conn at safety against Indiana. Can’t afford any busts.

Emmett Johnson averaged 5.8 yards per carry last season behind an average Donnie-led OLine.

We have a better coached, larger O-Line this season and our RBs averaged 3.8 yards per carry against Maryland. Our OLine was just shy of +30 lbs bigger than Marylands DLine.

Mozee and Nelson don’t make people miss, they’re not patient with our blocking and they don’t break tackles.

They do understand their role, they’re sufficient and effective in the pass game - pass pro and screen game. If Rule is healthy and effective he’s clearly our best RB and the others are good compliments. As the primary … not so much.

As the competition ramps up with better defenses 3.8 per carry isn’t going to be achieved unless we get better production from the RB position.

I would agree to an extent. However:

JR has exceptional talent and is top tier. His only knock is his ability to stay healthy and he did fight with injuries in high school.

MN is certainly above average, is good at running, pass protection and catching. A complete back.

Mozee played well yesterday against a good run defense. He might arguably be average running up the middle, but he showed good pass protection and ability to make moves in the open field against a good run stop team who’s game plan was to sell out to stop the run. The game reps he got will serve him well.

Genatone‘s got game and should be on scholarship. Probably realistic to call him average along with Ives compared to other B1G running backs. This is not a slight as average B1G is pretty darned good.

I would say our RB room is much better than average.

With a healthy Rule I would agree.

On Maryland's first TD, Caleb Benning was the player who took the wrong angle which let the receiver take it to the house.
