I know we have a lot of Omaha residents, UNO grads and general friends of the school that post and lurk here so I thought it would be good if we had thread to keep the updates and news about UNO together and easy to find.

This is UNO's second season in the Big Leagues and their first as a member of the Summit League.

If you haven't seen them play, you should know that they play a fast, uptempo style of basketball--by far the fastest tempo in the state.

However, there are 2 aspects of their game where they struggle, namely: Offense & Defense.

On offense, they don't do anything well, but rebounding, turnovers, getting to the line and shooting are all a problem.

Defensively, they are nearly the worse team in D1; currently 343rd out of 345 teams. Their opponents are shooting 55% from inside the arc and getting 40% of the offensive rebounds. The only thing they do well defensively is keeping the other team off the line, but that has more to do with the fact that they play a matador "O-Lay" style of defense where they don't actual get in the way of the opposing player who is trying to shot, drive or rebound.

That said, their head coach Hansen and Coach Miles are locked in a death match struggle to see who can get the most wins in conference. 3 might be what it takes to win that contest.

Keep an eye out for Justin Simmons. He's #2 in the nation in Fouls Committed / 40 minutes among players who get 60% or more the available minutes.

They do what a lot of teams like them do. They go on the road for most of the OOC slate and get paid to scrimmage other teams. There's really nothing to take away from their stats, their pace, etc. They are generally playing teams that are infinitely better than them and possessions, scores, etc. are obviously going to be out of the norm as compared to when both teams play someone more their equal.

UNO's stats will improve when they get into the conf. part of their schedule...although the win/loss colums won't improve much.

Unfortunately for Hansen he was coach at the time of the change. Obviously, he was thrilled to all of a sudden be a D1 coach. But he's going to get cruicified for the foreseeable future. It will be interesting to see how long he lasts.

They have played a couple of teams of comparative talent. They are 1-1 against team ranked 300 or worse.
