UCLA NEXT COACH - Tony White? - NOPE! It's Deshaun Foster.

We NIL-type programs for some of our coaching staff. I seem to remember Tom Osborne finding ways to subsidise coaches compensation with media, etc.

There is more smoke .... does this need to move to the "Football" forum?

This is from Bruce Feldman - college football insider of The Athletic.

Nebraska DC Tony White played at UCLA and has proved to be a bright defensive mind. The 44-year-old White, a Rocky Long protege, had a good first season in Lincoln, turning what had been the Big Ten’s 13th-ranked run defense into the No. 2 unit this season. The Huskers have gone from No. 10 in sacks to No. 2. I’m told there legitimate interest in White and he’s a strong candidate,” reported Feldman.

A very undesirable opportunity considering we are in February, the 2024 recruiting class was terrible for a school like UCLA, little fan support, and an under-water athletic department. Good luck DeShaun. You are going to need every ounce of it.

UCLA Athl Dept is hugely in debt, over 100 million in debt, and their NIL program is lame. They make very little $ with an avg of 38-42k per attended game. They desperately need to get some fundraising going there, and get people in the seats. It is a fantastic stadium to watch a game, and even better place to tailgate. Even the late season games are at worst 48-50 degrees after dark. New teams from the BIG will increase the gate for sure.

If there's something to be had in greater fan attendance and monies the Big is the place for them.
Big money alone won't solve their problems

Official Press Release:

"Bruins,

We are excited to announce today that one of our all-time great Bruins, DeShaun Foster, will be the next head football coach at UCLA.

DeShaun has been on UCLA’s staff for 10 years. He spent the past seven seasons as our running backs coach and served as associate head coach in 2023. In 2022, he was a nominee for the Broyles Award, presented annually to college football’s top assistant coach.

His running backs group led the Pac-12 in rushing offense in each of the last two seasons and has posted three consecutive top-20 national finishes. Among the standout running backs DeShaun has coached at UCLA are NFL players Zach Charbonnet, Brittain Brown, Demetric Felton Jr. and Joshua Kelley.

As a Bruin student-athlete, DeShaun was a key player on UCLA’s 1998 Pac-10 Championship team as a freshman and earned All-America honors as a senior in 2001 before embarking on a seven-year NFL career highlighted by his 33-yard touchdown in Super Bowl XXXVIII.

Throughout our comprehensive search, DeShaun resonated with us from the start, as we are looking for a coach with integrity, energy and passion; someone who is a great teacher, who develops young men, is a great recruiter and fully embraces the NIL landscape to help our student-athletes. DeShaun checks all of those boxes and then some. He is a leader of men and a true Bruin. We are excited for the future of this program with DeShaun Foster at the helm!

Go Bruins!"

Great pick! Good luck Coach Foster!!

Now...any of you other programs that might be eyeing Tony White as your next head coach, consider that even his alma mater thinks he needs several more years seasoning!

And don't worry, we will let you know as soon as he is ready.

I suppose there's still a chance White could move to UCLA as a DC.
