I just finished two novels by Murakami, the Japanese author of Wind Up Bird Chronicle and IQ84. They are not for everyone, but they are fascinating tales if you enjoy stories that weave in and out of the natural and the supernatural. They both share his skill for writing suspenseful stories, but they are different. He is one of the few writers that can keep a reader interested even as he writes 3 or 4 pages in which he describes in some detail nothing happening. But stuff does happen. Lots of it.
The books are A Wild Sheep Chase and Dance, Dance, Dance. If you choose to read them, read them in that order; in many respects the second book is a continuation of the first.
