I assume "why would he leave, he's making $1.6 million" is a rhetorical question, but I'll answer it anyway because I'm a great guy:

OU doesn’t have the cash to compete for an SEC title. Their ceiling is about 5th place.

I’m ambivalent about conferences - it’s about teams. 5 years ago OU would be fine in the SEC. But they can’t fund a pro team. The future of college football is 7-8 pro teams, and OU isn’t one of them.
And yet that hasn't happened.
So big media money is, according to you, pushing the Big 10 into the stratosphere, yet $ millions of private donor money isn’t having any effect whatsoever on Ole Miss, SMU, Texas, and aTm.
Until there is some parity mandated, there is 8-10 teams in this club of pro ball.
The pro teams are:
tOSU
Texas
aTm (a year early)
SMU (a year or two early)
Ole Miss
Alabama
Georgia
Oregon
Michigan (questionable)
USC (probable)
Barring a (Phil) Knight for someone else, this be the club. Media money? That’s sofa change to the pro teams.
A single SMU donor wrote 7 years of ACC media money with one personal check.
We can do a circle jerk about how cool our conference of choice is, but it’s really just about the pro teams.

Could be. Whoever has the money to fund the pro teams will be on top. There’s only a handful that have donors that can and will spend whatever they want and never miss it.

There are probably 15 teams that will have a shot at winning it all. About the same as right now and the same as it was 20 years ago.
A team might drift in/out over time but let's not pretend parity has existed throughout cfb.
I don’t think it’s 15 but agree with your second point. A 12 team playoff probably gets most of them in, in theory.
