Trump Executive Order

Again WHO is profiting from the old model of college football?

There are no owners, there is no “league office outside of the NCAA”.

Those that DO profit are:
(a) woman’s sports,
(b) Olympic sports,
(c) non revenue sports including softball, baseball, volleyball …
(d) the tens of thousands of athletes annually who received some financial assistance towards their college degree
(e) the thousands of trainers, advisors, maintenance, S&C people who’s livelihood is built on athletics

If you want to make an argument that some coaches/administrators are overpaid … fine but that is a drop in the bucket.

The new model is putting into jeopardy every individual and sport listed above.

So FBS Football is not profitable according to you?

Interesting take.

Where is all the money coming from and going?

Waiting eagerly for your opinion.

I am a huge supporter of women's Bowling and Rifle Team, they do more with less.

By the way, University of Texas reported $165 Million in profit.

Not profitable.......

I didn’t say FBS football isn’t profitable. My response was to someone who suggested that the old model somehow is/was bad because we were exploiting th players.

The old model has extremely profitable football whose profits were/are used to fund Title IX, women sports, Olympic sports and every other non revenue sport in existence.

My response was a counter to the suggestion that these poor football players were being exploited. That is such an uninformed unintelligent position because it ignored where the profits went.

Please try a reading comprehension class because I never said football wasn’t profitable.

Great point, under the current scenario, the "lesser" sports will congregate into even smaller groups of schools able to pay their athletes

Except in this case we need government to change the rules that government screwed up. We need the government to give back the power the NCAA used to utilize.

How can you have a system where a college football player can't go play for the NFL team of his choice?? Doesn't everyone have the right to choose where they work??
They are no different than employees. They get to choose from however offers. They are choosing to abide by the NFL rules of fair play or not. In fact they can even choose to play in the Canadian league or USFL.

Most football programs pay the expense of other programs. This was a simple search of Texas where it states the entire athletic department operated in a deficit

And over time, newly elected members of Congress from across the country can pass legislation for the NCAA to have more power.

12 years in the House and 12 years in the Senate. Stagger, the end of the term limits so not all seats in both sides of Congress are up for reelection. Of course some will not get voted to full terms.

Simple searches are simple.

Here’s the real, no-spin financial picture of Texas Longhorns football and the University of Texas at Austin athletic system:
Big Picture: Is Texas Football Profitable?
Yes — massively.
But context matters: football carries the entire athletic department.
Football Program Economics (Core Reality)
1. Football is the profit engine
Texas football alone generates ~$200+ million annually in modern revenue cycles
Chron no
Historically, it has produced ~$100M+ in profit by itself in some years
TIME
Translation:
Football = cash machine
2. Example breakdown (recent cycle)
Football revenue (modern era): ~$204.7M
Chron
Drives the majority of total athletic income
Texas is the #1 revenue program in college football (~$298M adjusted revenue)
CBS Sports
No one consistently out-earns Texas.
️ Total Athletics (Important Distinction)
Texas doesn’t operate football in isolation — it runs a full athletic ecosystem.
2024 snapshot:
Total revenue: $331.9M
Total expenses: $325M
Net profit: ~$7M
Burnt Orange Nation
Thin margin — but still profitable.
2025 shift (SEC transition effect):
Athletic department lost ~$23M
This was planned due to SEC entry costs and reduced payout share
Yahoo Sports
Key insight:
Temporary dip, not structural weakness
⚖️ Why Profit Looks Smaller Than It Should
This is where most people misunderstand the system.
Football subsidizes everything else:
Non-revenue sports = loss leaders
Includes:
Women’s sports (Title IX compliance)
Olympic sports (track, swimming, etc.)
Facilities + scholarships
Without football:
Most athletic departments collapse financially
Structural Truth (This Matters)
Football generates the majority of athletic revenue
But universities:
Reinvest aggressively
Spend heavily on facilities, staff, NIL infrastructure
Result:
Profit is intentionally kept low on paper
But cash flow and brand value are enormous
Valuation Perspective (What It’s Really Worth)
Texas football valuation: ~$2.2–$2.4 BILLION
CBS Sports +1
That’s professional franchise territory
Bottom Line (Straight Answer)
Football program alone:
✔ Highly profitable (tens to hundreds of millions)
Entire athletic department:
✔ Usually small profit or break-even
❌ Can show losses during transition periods (like SEC move)
Strategic Take (Your Style — No Fluff)
Texas football is:
A revenue engine disguised as a college team
Operating like a pro franchise inside an academic wrapper
The “profit” number is almost misleading.
The real value is:
Cash flow
Media rights leverage
Recruiting power
Brand dominance
If you want, I can break it down further like a balance sheet — revenue streams (TV, tickets, NIL, boosters) vs cost structure — the same way you analyze a stock.

But.....source matters
Profitable.......you decide.

Thanks for proving the point. It’s not big profit (200million). That was stated. This search says 7 million. Now Texas football……specifically, just like Nebraska football is profitable.

You missed the point.
These are best guesses, but you posted a poorly spelled attempt to "teach" me something.
You failed.
There is asymmetrical profit.
Which was my point.
What are your ambitions?

Massively profitable per the article.
Massively.
