Trev Alberts not a candidate for AD job in Lincoln

I agree it's hard to imagine he didn't want the job, but then why would the search firm contact him in the first place if he wasn't a candidate? It seems there's a piece of information missing in this article.

The search firm was making him a 'candidate', likely at the insistence of Bounds and/or Green to please certain boosters, regents, and fans. Doesn't mean they had to hire him. If he wasn't at least on the list, some folks would have freaked.

Now we can lay "Trev to NU" to rest.

An article from a year and half ago on Paul Meyers. I always thought he was our best bet if we really wanted a "Nebraska guy." He's been away from it for awhile now. He'd still have good rapport with boosters but he wouldn't likely be all that well prepared to deal with a football coach search in his first month on the job, if it comes to that.

Lets not rule out that they guy sitting there as interim may still end up being the one.

I still say call Joe Castiglione at OU. There will be new leadership there soon. Maybe he is up for a challenge and he does have a clue.

I would say you reach out to a guy like Trev and give him a courtesy interview out of respect for the fact that he's an alum and an AD at an affiliated school 50 miles away.

So it's your opinion that he knew that and that's why he turned down the interview request? I'm not disputing what you're saying, that seems reasonable. But the OWH article makes it sound like they reached out to him and he said "No thanks".

The way the article is written doesn't make it look like that. I'm not disagreeing with you, just that whoever wrote that article either left out some info or wrote in a way to make it sound like Trev turned UNL down.

I can't think of any logical reason as to why he wouldn't want the huge promotion to go from a small commuter school to a large university with a great athletic department, and his alma mater to boot.

Given that, the only other plausible alternative that I can think of is that he knew that he was not going to get the job, and thus decided against throwing his hat in the ring.

A

As long as you are happy that is all we want!
Who you got? Who's your guy? I'm simply offering up some common sense here. What do you have? You want another Eichorst, with a Riley to go with it? That's why they are in this mess chief. Lack of vision and common sense gets you where NU currently sits.

That guy sitting there already ruled it out.

I honestly thought DR would be a candidate but reading one the articles about him and his really, super bad knees and him saying that physically he would not be up for the job, I have changed my opinion I don't think physically he is able to do the job and I think we all know there are a lot of things that an AD needs to be able to do. I respect him for saying he doesn't think he could do it.

Yeah, that seems like the most logical scenario. Whoever wrote the article might want to proofread it though. :)

lol. I'm sure it went down just as Trev said. ;)

Possible they reached out to him, he made a couple of calls and didn't like his chances as a result. Also possible he doesn't like Ronnie or Hank, or his wife and kids don't want to move..... I never looked at what he makes at UNO, but would assume it's comfortable, even though probably a fair amount less than UNL.
