One of two things have to be true.We are kind of like the company that loses money on every sale, but thinks they can make it up through volume!

No, top players want top money which happens to only be available from contenders because losing programs don't have money.This. Top players are chasing money, it's true. But they also want to play for contenders. Nebraska just isn't there yet. Don't know if everyone on here realizes that. Some think that 'stacks of cash' are the only factor. Huskers need to put a good season together, maybe score an upset along the way. Then stack another good season after that. Kids will begin to notice. Winning will help out an awful lot of things.
Simple process and exactly what’s happened in college football. Can’t see how it’s sustainable long term if fans demand competitive football. How many BIG teams can afford to pay millions in NIL money year after year? Unless Nebraska latches onto to a DEEP POCKETS sugar daddy it’s going to get worse not better imo.No, top players want top money which happens to only be available from contenders because losing programs don't have money.
See the correlation:
Winning programs have money, can buy top players: then continue to win
Losing programs don't have money; can't buy top players and continue to lose.

National Football signing day has come and gone in Nebraska with about as much fanfare as the delivery of a dozen wilted roses. For what I believe to be the first time in 50 years, Nebraska's recruiting class does not make it into the top 75......We had 12 signees but we lost one last night not to Alabama or Ohio State or Texas, but to.....drum roll...... James Madison!

This is very misleading because everyone knew this would be a historically small class because of the roster numbers. Even if they signed a ton of 4 and 5 stars, their overall class ranking would be low simply because of its size.
Is not just the top players chasing money. Most all of them are. If school A is paying them 50k for limited roles, depth, but school B is offering 150k for the same role, most are gone. As per your second part, yes winning matters. If NU could score that upset, could score a 10-2, then the fans would be more willing to give when they see winning big is possible. That’s where elite, excellent coaching comes into play, which to date, NU hasn’t had. Right now, few want to give for .500 football. Why give when you suck, and the product is lame? That’s where they currently sit.This. Top players are chasing money, it's true. But they also want to play for contenders. Nebraska just isn't there yet. Don't know if everyone on here realizes that. Likely 2. They most certainly had to spend to keep most of what they recruited/acquired to stay. If not, those dudes are gone too. That’s why development in this day and age are going to be limited. It will be crucial to acquire players that play in similar systems developed by someone else. If you don’t, the learning curve is too great to grasp quickly enough for a team to gel. That’s why there were so few good offensive lines in CFB last year. Too many moving parts. Too little time to gel. There’s a learning curve, with very little time to ‘get it’.One of two things have to be true.
1) We didn't spend the money we have.
Or
2) we spent a lot on the current roster and didn't have a lot left over for portal players.
Or maybe fans wouldn't feel more willing to give to support paying players who in turn transfer for the next bigger check at the first chance? I'm not sure what facts you have to support the theory that fans aren't willing to give for .500 football, but i'm fairly confident that many fans who might have given in the past are less willing to give in this "new era" of college football. Is not just the top players chasing money. Someone has to put it all together, right? Rhule hasn’t been able to have 22 dudes gelling at the s@me time. Something is always off. That’s coaching and lack of ability to put people into the right places for success. He has to get better at that.Or maybe fans wouldn't feel more willing to give to support paying players who in turn transfer for the next bigger check at the first chance? But of course, it always comes down to coaching. How many coaches are elite or at least excellent in D1 football? Because TT has a bunch of money flowing in and i don't think i've ever seen their HC described as elite...or excellent.
