TJ Lateef

I agree he's evolving for the Big10. I don't think anyone really stays static in terms of play calling, but obviously you can't run a Big12 offense day in/out in the Big 10, you'd get crushed.
Dana was able to take advantage of mismatches because he knew his system.
I see his growing pains, I miss his fast pace and tempo, because it gassed defenses, allowed his offense to take further advantage of gassed defensive mismatches.
But Dana is only a facet of the problem.
Offensive line is still a huge concern, acknowledging recruiting improvement)
Defense is a mystery.
WR's blocking improved because we had to use WR's and extra Offensive lineman for protection.
Multiple problems but previous Holgorsen QB's didn't take this level of punishment.

I'm sure part of the slow paced offense is that we can't keep our defense on the field. So a quick 3 and out on offense means another longer drive by the opposing offense. In other words, we can't get off the field quickly often enough on defense and Rhule is worried about that so Holg. goes a bit slower on defense. I can buy some of that.

The other part is that EJ is the best player on offense. It makes sense to feed him. The guy is a machine.

Watching Michigan and Ohio St run four man lines. Oregon, USC, Iowa all run four man lines. Penn St does as well even though they had a poor showing this season. One good team Indiana that runs with three. Wish there was a blueprint for success in this league.

You’re right. My bad. Still, small sample. Both were the best defenses NU has seen all year long. Is that fair? Or am I lying about that as well?
Yes as a matter of fact you are. Michigan was a statistically tougher defense than Penn state and your point was trying to reference all his starts so UCLA is towards the bottom.

It’s like our coaches want to look like they know better. I still dont know what a Rhule led team is supposed to look like. What is his philosophy? Strategy? Leadership style? No clue after 3 years here or anywhere else.

I still like the kid. He’s got talent. Many top programs wanted him. I never said anything was simple. I do like the eye test. Dude played on one leg yesterday after the second drive. What happened at Penn state wasn’t his fault. I guess you will conveniently leave all of that out though, and just blame the past two games all on TJ. That’s complete BS. I love his talent, but he needs experience as well. I also said he was likely to find it much harder in the next two games, but you left that part out.
You never said anything was simple? Really? You once said being able to tell Lateef is better than Raiola was like distinguishing “a fat girl from a hot girl” (your words, not mine).

I never blamed anything on TJ. He didn’t do anything to win PSU and Iowa, but he didn’t lose them either. Team game, team loss. But you were definitely blaming Raiola for Michigan and Minnesota. And you also said UCLA beats us with Raiola at QB. And your reasoning?

“Guys, I have eyeballs and common sense! What are you watching? It’s so obvious. Kid is a statue. He’s a 3-star.”

I’d say stick to judging women’s looks in bars.

I really don’t understand this, sure maybe running that playbook for a few games last year but I can’t fathom not being completely replaced after the season.
Keep in mind almost every coordinator is using similar plays. Terminology could change. Empty bunch quad 32 stack in one playbook could be outside stack Trey double open in another playbook. Dana absorbed the terminology used by Satt.

Honestly I’m not sure either. The 3-3-5 might work in the Big 12 not the Big ten. Offensively I’m not sure what we are doing. Raiola has some positives and negatives, EJ was our best player and we didn’t really seem to lean into the run game. I’m interested to see what quarterbacks are available in the portal. I honestly don’t think Raiola is back and TJ isn’t ready and might never be.

You are going to be accused of making up lies when you reference what he has really said.

Well, we need an offensive identity before we recruit. Fitting square pegs in round holes has been our downfall. We need lineman. That would be my first move.

I think we didn’t use EJ as much early in the season because our entire offensive plan was for DR to do it all. That is never a good idea. I dont think DR comes back either. We do not have the players for our offense to revolve around him. We need a utility QB who can do whatever is needed to win—not what will get you drafted.

I don’t recall blaming him for Michigan. Rhule had a lot to do with that game, from the first drive forward. I screamed and yelled about taking the damn points. Minnesota was obvious, but you can put some of that on the defense. No one person ever loses a game. Coaching, defense, and 9 sacks did them in.
