Thompson's thumb injury!

Although his injury has been discussed after reading the article in LSJ it really shocked me. Why didn't Texass provide proper medical care for Thompson? He's lucky his thumb/hand wasn't permanently damaged by continued playing last season. No wonder he wanted to get the hell out of there! He made the right move coming to Nebraska imo.

Texas, the win-at-all-costs football school.

I read/heard somewhere (sorry, no link, maybe in the linked story?) that CT left Texass in a big part due to how Texass did (or didn't, actually) diagnose/treat his thumb injury. He wasn't impressed.
I strongly suspect there's something to that story/rumor! His father sure wasn't impressed with the medical care he received. His hand should have immediately been properly diagnosed especially with all the medical facilties at TU. I'm sure Casey wanted to keep playing but few kids his age wouldn't say they were good to go. I thought AM shouldn't have been playing with a broken jaw but medical gave him the green light. Sometimes there should be some commonsense applied to these situations and the adults in the room (HC) says no and you'll live to fight another day.

Doesnt help when 'experts' leave those decisions between coach and player other than one was right, the other not so much.

One scenario is its between coach and player in all earnestness, again, the other, not so much

I would error on the side of caution most of the time with any significant injury for young players. It's a freaken GAME not life and death! I doubt sitting a player out in the regular is hardly career ending. On the other hand sitting out a certain player might be job ending for a HC. ;)

Completely agree. However consent of the players viewed differently by that player after the fact when he finds out he was given faulty info which could cause distrust even between coach and player.

Its all a matter of thin ice, but not skim ice.

People are making comparisons of CT broken thumb on playing hand and AM broken jaw. In AM case it had very little to do with his ability to play. Especially since we clap and not call signals. You can breath normal. There is a slight chance it could get broken worse. But with modern helmets breaking it in the first place is a freak accident.
With CT THE thumb on you throwing hand could affect your ability to throw and end your career. So I do not believe it is as hypocritical as some think.

If anything, this should emphasize the upside Casey Thompson brings. Yes, his numbers dropped with the injury, but I don't know how he managed to accomplish anything with basically a useless thumb.

The pressure to win at Texas is greater than maybe anywhere. Maybe it simply was a misdiagnosis (though that's not a good look by their medical staff at all), but Sark knows losing seasons are not accepted well in Austin.

Be careful, some could say the same thing with us trotting AM out game after game with a broken jaw
I was thinking this exact thing. I really wished they’d have played Logan, as the team had nothing to lose really. They already sucked. Maybe he would have been the spark they needed? We’ll never know.

What about a bad ass hit to the head, legal or not? They happen. Would that have been ok?

It’s not like they didn’t have another QB, one that was highly rated, who was the starter, until the ass whooping versus Arkansas. As far as pressure at Texas? If they ever want to win, the influential boosters should get the hell out of the AD. The problem with Texas is, too many people with their heads in the AD, not allowing good coaches to do their jobs. They’ve had good coaches go there to die. I also doubt the pressure at Texas is any higher than any other high profile program, they just cut ties quicker, because they have endless money. Pressure? What pressure? What’s pressure when you get 15-20 million to be fired? That’s not pressure, that’s like coaches saying, eff it, I can’t do my job right here, when I’m told repeatedly how to do it, from all kinds of directions. Give me my money to go away!
