The Illini fire their DC

Bulimia was a DC; I assume he'll take over until they hire a new one.

Apparently after 4 games you can know that the 3 3 5 defense doesn't work.

Hauck also released a statement, saying: “I enjoyed being a part of the staff here at Illinois and working alongside Coach Bielema every day. I am very appreciative of the opportunity to be here and thankful for all of the hard work from the players, coaches, and staff. I wish Illinois the best of luck.”

Hauck’s defense has faced plenty of criticism in recent weeks during the Illini’s 2-2 start to the season. He brought a new type of defense to Champaign — the 3-3-5 — but it hasn’t worked too well so far.

Sorry I just posted in the football forum, so someone can remove mine that has the powers to do that.

Has to be more behind the scenes than just them being unhappy with the start to the year. Hauck is an outstanding coach and maintained a top tier program at Montana in the FCS for nearly 15 years. To run a guy like that off barely a month into the season doesn't sit right with me.

I am too lazy to look up what his record was, at I think UNLV but I am starting to think he should maybe just stay in the FCS.

He was bad at UNLV 12 years ago but pretty darn good at the FCS level. He may certainly be an example of someone who doesn't translate but not sure there's enough information to say that definitively 4 games into the season with a roster that hasn't received much investment by Illinois. Braun certainly leveled up decently from the FCS level to Northwestern and Klieman did the same at Kansas State.

Hauck replaced Aaron Henry, who is currently Co-DC/DB at Notre Dame. ND currently has #1 defense (yds allowed.)

BTW, there are 5 Big Ten teams in the top 10 defenses:

Braun was in the right place at the right time but has parlayed that into success. Remember Braun was hired as DC at Northwestern and before he ever coached a game at NW the HC was fired and he was the interim who made it work

According to Bulimia's presser yesterday, Hauck is the one who initiated it. He asked to meet with BB before the staff meeting. Said he wasn't feeling it and the team deserves better.

Maybe he's tired of coaching. Thought new scenery would be a positive change but it didn't work out.

I wonder if they'll stick with the 3-3.
