Old news. He left the team before Spring Practice started; hence not on roster and planned to transfer. I think he went in first day portal opened and it was noted on the front page and in the press. But he was not in the 98 or so considered on scholarship that we need to pare down.
That would make sense given how much Bonner played during the spring game.
Ok. I'm slow. These are crazy times with all these players coming in and out of the portal. Can't wait to finally meet our team of 85 when we line up against Minnesota.
I'll be sitting down with a printed roster for the Minnesota game.
Between coach driven number changes, the new schemes and all the new players on the roster, I'll be surprised when I actually recognize someone.
I tend to make up my own names for them when we're playing poorly.

These are usually first quarter. Second quarter the secondary qualifiers start kicking in.
So Noa Pola Gates just entered the portal. Not surprised by the news but really curious what happened to him. IIRC he played in the All-American Bowl and made a play on Wandale. Just never seemed to find a rhythm here.
Depends when my "first quarter" started...sometimes I'm into 4th quarter names by kickoff.

Also, he is surprisingly short, and not particularly fast. That is not a good combination for a safety.
He is listed at 6'0", 180lbs. That is a generous listing, IMO. He is closer to 5'10" and I doubt he is 180lbs. If you are that small, you better have blazing speed or incredible football instincts to make up for it. He doesn't have blazing speed. I have no idea what his football instincts are like because he almost never played.

Take it for what it's worth, but I was always told he was the most talented physically of the group, but he just couldn't fully grasp the position.
