The Dana Holgorsen Effect

Just think where we'd probably be right now without DH: likely 5-6, with little shot at a bowl. Fan and team morale at an all-time low. Zero excitement heading into the offseason. No momentum on the recruiting trail. The possibility of Raiola leaving for greener pastures. Fans starting to second-guess Rhule.

Instead, Holgorsen has injected the entire program with a huge shot of HOPE. It's a little too early to anoint him as a savior, but it's amazing that he was able to accomplish in just a couple weeks what Satterfield couldn't do in 1.5+ seasons.

Dana really got after it in practice this week. He was getting in players faces, correcting play execution on the fly, calling out groups when they needed to perform better, and just overall all was much more vocal and demanding. He didn't feel he could do that initially as he was still getting up to speed, but he really wanted to make sure we got this win and got to a bowl game.

His addition was felt big time, I also heard he was a major force in lead up practices and was demanding of the players, they certainly showed up on Saturday. Now, do it again this Friday and then let's go play a bowl game in the sunshine somewhere and enjoy the off season. :)

Yeah I'm one of the few looking for cooler weather as opposed to warmer

White needs to get in some of his players faces too! There were still too many missed tackles! Our D gave up allot of yards but did keep them out of the endzone!

"Defensive Struggles. I contemplated not having anything in this category this week, because this is a time of celebration for all Husker fans. But it’s a bit concerning as we head into Iowa week that the Husker defense hasn’t been as dominant as we’re used to seeing over the last two weeks. USC scored 28 points on the Blackshirts, and Wisconsin scored 25. Both teams had missed or blocked field goals that would have made those totals even higher. Both teams put up over 400 yards. The defensive backfield in particular has been a concern, with opposing receivers seemingly wide open way too often. And there have been way too many missed tackles in recent games.

Hopefully, the Huskers can clean up the defensive issues for the Iowa game. The Hawkeyes are a run-heavy team, having completed only 10 out 14 passes for 76 yards in their game against Maryland this weekend. That should play to Nebraska’s strengths, but it’s Iowa, so we should assume the Blackshirts will need their absolute best possible performance in order for the Huskers to come out of there with a win. "

yeah I don't think he can get that room healthy...too many injuries
Definitely in trouble with the DB's with injuries, but that being said we still need to stop Iowa's run game and force them to pass! Hopefully we learned from last Saturday's game and grow! Iowa had 68 yards passing last game, with a good DH game plan on Offense we can keep Iowa off balance and help the D like we did against Wisky! GBR

Gifford has been pretty awful these last few weeks IMO. Lots of missed tackles, bad angles, and miscommunications exposing the corners to 1:1's that weren't supposed to be 1:1's. I don't think they're taking him off the field at this stage in the season though. My concern with both him and Singleton is that I don't think we've seen much, if any, of their backups. Who are we developing behind those guys?

Mean while back to the OP. Backs running through holes instead of into a lineman's butt, Pass patterns for quick precise throws as well as down field open zones. Perfectly placed outside shoulder passes when in man cover, a defense not knowing where the next play is coming from and on their heels. The implementation of a legit game plan that put players talent in the best position to succeed.....Yes more Dana, lock him down for next year.

Fewer wide receiver screens
A real nice delayed tight end screen
A well run screen to the rb

I know you and I had discussed possible options earlier this year and, while Dana was 1, I am not sure I thought he'd be here for very long. However, most of the guys I thought would be a good fit (Mack Leftwich, Jordan Davis, etc.) have largely all branched off that Leach tree. Holgorsen was one of the earliest disciples. He doesn't run the ball quite as much as we'd all probably like but he utilizes those famous Air Raid short passes as an equivalent to a run game (no, not the drawn out bubble that Satt loves), like the Emmett Johnson wheel route. If we can lock him up for another year or two, that is as much of a HR hire as we could've possibly gotten. Kudos to Rhule for doing it before the year was done and giving hopium to his team/the fans.

He's definitely been struggling in the back half of this season, but he's been a baller most of his career. He had one of his best games against Iowa last year, so hopefully he'll step it up again on Friday.

Rhamir Stewart is backing up Gifford but hasn't he been hurt throughout the year?

Bretz is backing up Singleton but hasn't gotten alot of playing time other than special teams.
