Texas A&M looking to leave the SEC for the B1G?

Greg Swaim reported a month ago that aTm moving to the B1G was unlikely. Evidently, things have taken a turn...

However, this could be on the horizon with rumored interest in Texas A&M. This could be a way for the Big Ten to expand to Texas, which is a huge market. However, the possibility of this happening is low, especially at a time when the Aggies will be having their in-state rival, the Texas Longhorns, making their way to the SEC.

It's been reported that A&M is not exactly thrilled to be partnered up with the Whorns again.

Juicy if it happens...

i called it in the forums since we started talking expansion over a year ago. they are looking to expand to a full country league. that meant they would go after a. texas school and a&M fit the bill for its situation and hatred of the longhorns. remember A&M was the team that leaked the sooner/longhorn moving to the SEC before sankey was ready.

Just don't understand why they would want to do that, which makes it hard to believe.

What does the B1G offer that the SEC does not? At best, it is a lateral move (likely a backward move). You'd have way more travel, as well. The only thing the B1G has over the SEC is that we don't have Texas in the conference. If A&M is wanting to dodge having to play them regularly in sports, that is the only logic I see behind it.

The B1G offers them (a) conference exclusivity for the state of Texas. I believe that is very important. Its why aTm willingly gave up a rivalry to move to the SEC. (b) A better more well-rounded athletic conference. The B1G have tOSU, USC, UCLA, Michigan and Penn St routinely in the All-Sports Director's Cup ... SEC has Texas and UF.

As long as aTm is in the same conference as UT, they will always be the "little brother" ... being on their own (successfully) they can narrow that gap.

Current average travel distances:
Texas A&M--Avg. miles: 643
Athens—790
Auburn—653
Baton Rouge—309
Columbia—923
Como—618
Fayetteville—397
Gainesville—840
Knoxville—806
Lexington—848
Nashville—671
Oxford—474
Starkville—482
Tuscaloosa—544
