Teams tampering with Dylan Raiola

Yes, I found out that his supporting cast was mediocre as the season went on. Before the season started it seemed like we had the weapons only to find out we apparently didn’t. I was also aware he was a true freshman. But he was billed as a prodigy.

He is going to have to show that he is what everyone said he would be. Apparently, he needed a better supporting cast. But when you have guys open deep, you need to hit them on the numbers. If you consistently miss the throws, it’s on you.

We should have won 9-10 last year. But somehow, we just “found a way”. Is this the year they make a big leap forward? No idea. For all practical purposes, in this new age of college football, the team is a brand new team every year. We won’t know what to expect until we see if our upgraded WR’s are better than last year’s upgraded WR’s at getting open. Hopefully, DH’s experience will be the secret sauce that makes this all work.

Sorry for being a Debbie downer, but I watched the last couple weeks of Nebraska men’s basketball. It’s hard to be optimistic after watching that end of season meltdown.
Best room upgrade last year?
QB
Best room upgrade this year?
WR
Best coaching upgrade? OC.

We will see. Off season upgrades always look great until the season starts. Then you find out what’s real and what’s not. Hopefully, this is the year the off season hype matches the production we see during the season.
I'm talking knowns, then off season. Barney will be better, and Bell was ahead of him when he got hurt. Add in Carter as well.
So all in all, the knowns will be better and better used.

Maybe, maybe not. I was imagining the same thing this time last year. Yet we ended up barely stumbling our way into bowl eligibility.

I hope this is the year we start seeing some consistent production out of the offense. And I hope the changes on defense don’t result in any drop off there. We now have a proven special teams coach. Maybe he can put together something positive with that group as well.

We’ve never had a problem accumulating potential for success. It’s the actual success that seems to elude us. Hopefully, this year is the turning point.

I'm not placing wins and losses, simply improvements. Barney came into his own, now we start with a better player. Bell was coming into his own until injury. Nelson will get better and used better, he has the most upside if used correctly.
The two we brought in are bonafied wrs with familiarity with one. No one can name a more improved room with the possible exception at kicker.

As to wins, our DBs have some surprises, our LBs has shown some high athleticism.
So I expect our O to be better, and little dropoff on D, and none if the run D is solid.

Barney needs a complimentary player.

Not to derail the thread topic, but was the end-of-the-season meltdown the outlier, or was the winning streak with the road wins over a couple of top teams the one-off?

At this point, does it matter? They were a pretty good team, until they weren’t. It’s a pattern we saw in the football team the last two seasons. We get to 5 wins with plenty of opportunity to close strong. Instead, year one we can’t get the 6th win. Year two, we manage the 6th win and nothing more.

Which is the outlier for the football team?

Per the bolded, maybe I'm taking your comment wrong but, as you stated, we got the 6th win but then a bowl win, which is a pretty big deal, no matter the bowl or opponent, with the way Husker football has been since 2015.

Beating Iowa and staying home was OK, last game a win. But losing to Iowa then going bowling and last game a win was even better.

I was talking about the season results. In basketball, we were well poised for an NCAA bid before collapsing and not even making the conference tournament.

In football, for two years in a row, we reach the five win mark relatively early and then can’t seem to keep things together after that. Year one we don’t win another game all season. Year 2, we win just one.

I was just pointing out the “in season” pattern. I wasn’t trying to minimize the importance of the bowl win in year 2. The nothing more was referring to having chances to do something great in season, record wise and inexplicably managing to miss those opportunities.

2025 is going to be different, of course. I’m past my temporary depression of watching Nebraska basketball and have high hopes that the football team will break the cycle.
