Stronger and Leaner

Yeah, I wish at this point in Rhule's tenure he'd stop making statements like this. He's done better this season but this one was not necessary.
Yeah, it was the 1st thing that popped in my mind when I read it. I just hope that with an older team we make a jump this year even with a tougher schedule. I wasn't too impressed with last season, it sucked that DR went down when he did. I'm tired of sucking.

What a bunch of whiners. We used to love hearing about measurables. Benching was a big deal, as were squats and deadlifts. We’d see those who were notable in their physical growth highlighted, and when they stopped sharing, most fans were all butt hurt, suggesting coaches were hiding disappointing performances.

This all sounds like another episode of, ‘Guys who need to complain or their lives are incomplete’. Whiners gonna whine.
I wasn't whining at all, it was a post too be funny. Remember being called the all bus team? It wasn't very funny when it happened.

Unfortunately in this day and age, you need both elite coaching and elite NIL. A&M has all the money but can’t seem to put it together with their coaching. I’m just not sure Rhule is it. And that’s not a knock, he understands the NIL landscape better than most and what players need to develop, but he just can’t formulate the staff to do so, which as a CEO coach, you just have to be able to do. Hopefully this staff can do it, but I’m just not sold on his ability to hire good assistants at the moment
I like the guys he brought in during the offseason, so maybe third times the charm? "mshrug:

Here is the measures I am concerned with:

1. Can they protect the quarterback
2. Can they open up holes for the running backs
3. Can they wear down the opposing DL so we dominate the second half
4. Can they play well enough to keep our D off the field so they aren't worn out by half time.

(here is my measure for our defense:

1. Can they stop the run
2 Can they stop the pass
3. Can they play hard enough that the opposing offense doesn't want to go back on the field and remembers playing us for at least 2 weeks as well as not looking forward to play us next year.)

I don't think I am asking for much.

I’m hopeful of it for sure, I think he finally realized that saving money on “potential homerun” assistants wasn’t going to keep him in Lincoln for long. It was time to spend some money and get guys who have actually produced and I think he’s done that finally. And I still thing Holgorsen is a homerun hire, just needed a QB that fits his offense

All coaches make these types of statements, it's just irritating when they don't result in success. Coaches are constantly put in front of a camera and have to try and "sell" their team and the job they're doing.

Yea it's hard to tell if our offense struggled last year because of DR or Holgorsen. Maybe both?

I also think Rhule recognized his mistake in that he brought in young coaches to groom before he had the systems in place to groom them. Looking back I still shake my head at the McGuire hire.

Or perhaps there is now a bigger budget for assistant coaches than there was the first year?

Not a perfect staff, but nobody really knows what led to the group that was hired.

Too many people take way too much out of what a coach says or doesn't say in a PC. As you say he is trying to sell the team.

I usually don't listen to a lot of in season press conferences. I never listen to after game PCs. If the team wins everyone is happy and the whole world is rainbows and unicorns. If they lose everyone wants an explanation right at that very minute. What is he going to say that is going to make you happy about losing the game. Nothing he says is going to make you happy.

It was definitely a risk, but sometimes those risks pay off. Lincoln Riley was on Leaches staff at TT when he was like 24 as the WR coach.

Performance measurables are one thing, this isn't quite the same.

I found it kind of funny. First, collectively losing 188 pounds of fat over 105 players is not very much. We could likely beat that with just the right couple of guys on Huskermax.

As far as muscle gain goes 677 pounds is about 6.5 lbs per player. The only way you are going to to do that in 3 months is if everyone were newbie lifters, it's really mostly water retention, or you are taking something illegal.

It really was a stupid thing to put out there because the in the best case scenario he is exaggerating that claim. The other options are he ran a program for 3 years without much of an off-season weight program at all or that he is going to put scrutiny on the program for not being on the up and up.
Disagree strongly but whatever

The only thing I really care about hearing in post game press conferences is if there is an explanation about something they might actually be forthcoming about. Most of the time they beat around the bush or coach speak, but occasionally they'll slip up and say something of value.
