Stop Losing to Iowa

In this game yes Mast got mugged a couple times, overall I thought this was one of the better more consistent reffing than all season.

The team had a shot to win late and it's on them that the last 2 minutes went the way they did. It frustrates me to no end that it was Iowa that ended our season.

This was the most fun and enjoyable seasons in a long while and I truly appreciate the way the team played together and unselfishly, a rarity in today's sports world.

It's not bailing anyone out. The mistake was made, not just by the players involved, but by the coaches and the officials. There is a reason you like having more than one set of eyes on things, but in this case we had an entire gallery and they all still missed it. One reason I mentioned the officials is because they aren't thinking about anything buy the standards of the game. They aren't focusing on any particular play, what kind of defense a team is showing, or who is going to be screening on a particular play. They manage the clock, where the ball is being inbounded and the players on the court. If there are 6, they should know, if there are 4, they should know, if a guy comes off the bench and into the game late, they should know and that's a technical.

This. Calling Iowa “mediocre” is not accurate. Their coach won everywhere he’s been and it didn’t take long to get there. I don’t know if they will win the tournament this year but won’t be surprised if they play for it.

They aren't mediocre but they aren't winning it all. I wouldn't be shocked if Illinois beats them by double digits.

What’s really embarrassing are fans who have never been in a situation like this, thinking it was some sign of incompetence. I’ve seen guys thinking they were out of the game, sitting on the bench and having to be told they needed to be in. I’ve seen guys forget to check in at the scorers table and get T’d up. What normally happens is an official mentions to a coach they need another body, and honestly, those officials should have blown the play dead and assessed a technical as soon as Mast ran onto the court from the bench.

Personally, I was really impressed how Fred stepped in when a reporter asked Mast what happened. Could it have been Renk’s fault? Maybe, but Fred wasn’t going to put him in a position of having to defend himself. That was the best coaching move of the tournament.
