Special Teams…AGAIN!?

We played well enough on both sides of the ball to win. All we needed was special teams to be solid, not even great. Just solid. Just execute the basics. But alas…

I’m not going to call for Foley’s firing because I think that’s a foregone conclusion. Here’s hoping that they can get this figured out by next year.

I don't even know if we needed as much as "solid" tonight. Something just barely north of Pathetic would probably have been enough. "Meh" would have been plenty.

No clue . . . but it's all coaching.

I love Shavers as a player and he'll be great . . . but what the hell is a FR LB doing on special teams in a game like this? You need experienced players and probably ones more used to blocking for returns.

and why didn't someone yell get away as our returner didn't touch it I'm guessing no Communication and that's a Returner and Coaching issue but then again we have caught punts inside the 5 all year and can't snap it on FG's and vs Rutgers had what Two or three Punt blocks

Pretty much. Iowa has one of the best ST coords out there. They rarely hurt themselves on ST.
