Sorsby suing NCAA

Do you really believe that?
Not everything is an illness, some people just mess up there lives because they are stupid.
Two things can be true at the same time.

Yes, people are stupid and mess up their lives and things like gambling, alcohol, drugs, sugar, etc. can rewire a person's brain to act in ways against their best interests.

That said, I would never say that the presence of an addictive trait/behavior would ever remove the addict from the consequences of the addiction. We all pay for our choices in life and addictions often result in others helping to foot the bill.

I'm not sure how you come up with this cause and effect. Maybe ESPN and NFL get more viewership if people have money bet on a game, but sports betting is going to occur if those two entities support it or not. Each may have a specific site that they are associated with, but there are about 20 other sites that are available for anyone to use.
Maybe so, but I do recall that we had a football coach at one point that didn't want the school to participate in alcohol sales as drinking can be problematic for some in a college setting.

I don't really care how many viewers either get, it just has a very slimy feel to it to me. I've personally witnessed folks that gambled with money that they didn't have to lose, and it tore families up. But hey, if folks are gonna gamble, go right ahead - just don't expect the taxpayer to be on the hook for the foolishness.

I'm also old enough to remember when the commercials during NFL games beer and truck ads were primarily. Now, its gambling and **cough** male issue **cough** ads. The culture continues to coarsen, IMO.

E$PN, the No Fun League, and others are pushing folks with addictive behaviors to ruin themselves just so that the weasels can squeeze a few more coins out of the process.

Mind you, that doesn't relieve Sorsby of his addiction (for which he seriously needs help).

Just ask him and I'm sure that an honest response will be forthcoming:

You could be using the term”addiction” pretty loosely to try to make a criticizing point.

Well Sorsby has admitted he needs help overcoming Gambling meaning its out of his control and needs help,
Yes I also understand its a big game and by admitting he needs help he wants to be forgiven and not be punished
No, by all accounts he has already given it up and has for years but he is trying to head off any penalties by self imposing treatment

Well, for one: ESPN BET

No disrespect at all intended to anyone here, but that is partially what boards are for - to criticize.

I am sure that there are many that can responsibly bet, just like there are many that also know their limits with alcohol or junk food. I am also sure that there is evidence that there are many who can't.

Those that fit into the second category - folks that end up struggling with alcoholism or a family that is broken up because someone went to the casinos and blew the mortgage and grocery money repeatedly seem to qualify as an addict. With that said, I am not a trained addiction counselor, just a layman that has had experience with family and friends engaging in personally destructive behaviors.

As an aside, who are the states going to sue like they did "Big Tobacco" back in the day if this gambling push goes off the rails? Seems kind of hard when a number of them have lotteries, gaming deals with casinos, etc.

I had read a report in the Cincinnati Newspaper a week ago paper that He was betting up until august of last season
Don't know how accurate the report is but that's what they reported "mshrug:

I think you missed the point. This isn’t a complicated event. The guy made bets. Got caught two years ago. Stopped doing it. NCAA is finally investigating it. Sorsby trying to head it off with a “gambling addiction” excuse with treatment. It’s all BS. Don’t buy this “addiction” crap and try blaming the institutions.

Ok, I'll easily agree to blaming the NCAA. They're gutless, IMO.

If that is the game he is playing, he will pay the price for that at the next level, if he is even given that chance.

Addiction is still real and not all who claim it are faking.

Wow. You still don’t get it. Still blaming the institution while dismissing the individual. It’s people and society thinking like this that have driven us this way. Why do you think the ncaa is gutless? Because the lawyers and courts have pulled all their power away from them in favor of the individuals over the NCAA as in institution. The NCAA didn’t choose NIL or open transfers. The courts did. And they will probably cover Sorsby and defy the NCAA in any gambling penalties too.
