I know we are losing a good number of seniors. I have started seeing players enter the portal so I figured I should as those of you with way more knowledge than myself, who do we need to replace?

I think two of the most important things to ask is how many are originally from NE and want to try to follow the standard that is being set. It may be very difficult to replicate, but NU has shown that women's sports are important and it won't be impossible.

At least one starting pitcher, preferably a righty. Need to hang on to what we have.
With 12 seniors it has to be an impactful group to rebuild this thing. Not expecting to catch lightning in a bottle again, but there are not just holes to fill, but it is a rebuild.

Agree, an impactful pitcher will be huge, as always in softball.

We already have one, Alexis Jensen. She is *clearly* the #1 SP going into next season. That kid is already very, very good. I was really impressed with her skills and mental makeup this postseason. The big thing she needs to work on this offseason is the “gopher ball.” She allowed 22-23 HR this season.

Coach Rhonda doesn’t necessarily need to try to get “the next Jordy,” or even a proven #1 SP because Alexis will (hopefully) not be going anywhere. She just needs somebody who’s good enough that the Huskers aren’t forced to do what Oklahoma State had to do quite often this year, start Ruby Meylan on back to back days.

Anybody know anything about the incoming HS recruiting class? In addition to any incoming HS pitchers, Kylee Magee will be a senior next season. Because of Jordy, Alexis and Hannah, Magee was only was asked to pitch 21 innings this season, but the kid does have skills. She made the PAC-12 All Freshman team in 2023.

Lastly, I fully acknowledge this question is nuts…but is there any way Nebraska could make a legit argument that Jordy should get another year? She only pitched 2.1 innings in her first game as a Husker. I presume she took a “regular” redshirt year when she got injured. There are multiple football players who have gotten (multiple) medical hardship years for injuries. If Jordy wants to come back, couldn’t Nebraska argue she should get a medical hardship year for 2022-23?

Lastly, I want to see Kennadi get a shot at more playing time next season. That kid is *realiy* fast. Which is, of course, why she’s the first PR off the bench. She’s never going to hit for power, but she could be a really good “push” bunt hitter. If she was able to develop into at least a somewhat talented switch hitter, she’d also be a good slapper IMO.

Sorry about the double post! I can’t figure out how to delete it.

If Coach Rhonda wants an established SP out of the portal, Mississippi State pitcher Delaney Everett entered the portal yesterday. Also, about a week ago, OU pitcher Berkeley Zache and her sister Riley entered the portal. Berkeley has three years of eligibility remaining. Not sure about Riley.

I saw the Miss St pitcher plans to enter the portal when it opens, but she is another lefty. Would we be looking more for a good right hand pitcher?

Then again never turn down a good pitcher if she'd like to come here. Lack of pitching come tournament time will cost you. Yesterday at the UCLA/ Tx Tech elimination game UCLA had their pitcher in for over 180 pitches.

We could really use someone good with a bat. Lack of hitting is what got us in the end.

To your “nuts” question, in softball playing one pitch spoils a redshirt. So her injury year was a medical redshirt, and now she has completed 4 years of eligibility so no regular redshirt is available. As far as Kennadi is concerned, can she hit is the question— I note she almost never was used as a PH.

I knew it was a long shot when I asked it, oh well.

Since Jordy announced she wasn't going to play pro softball this year, she wasn't drafted by the AUSL last month. But she's still on the National Team, so she's not going to stop training. If she wants to play pro, I would be stunned if she's not drafted by the AUSL next year. I wonder if there's enough interest in softball for the AUSL to put a team in Omaha or Lincoln if the league succeeds and eventually expands beyond six teams? I'm a little surprised they have a draft and the league doesn't assign the star players to teams nearest where they played their college ball. Hopefully, if she wants to play next year, Jordy will get drafted by the team in OKC.

I agree with you on Kennadi. She's only had 2 AB in her career, both in 2024-25. If she was a lefty, I could see her developing as a slapper. Since she's a righty, that's a problem.

A reminder on the incoming class:

Thanks for posting this.

Because they have so many other needs, and signed HS RHP Cali Bentz, I wouldn't be shocked if the Huskers didn't go after a "high profile" SP in the portal. If the coaches think at least one of Bentz, Magee or Emmerson Cope can deveop into a reliable #2 starter for next season, just let them "fight it out" in fall ball and practice. Because of Jordy, and Jensen's rapid development, Cope only pitched an inning this year. But she does have skills. When she signed, one site rated her the #26 recruit in the country.

Lastly, the press release didn't mention it, but I think Cali Bentz may be related to former Omaha Westside and Nebraska swimming coach Cal Bentz. $Bill Byrne fired him in 2000 after Nebraska self reported alleged NCAA violations, and subsequently killed the program. He allegedly was trying to help his swimmers pay for school, and perhaps a little bit of life. The NCAA couldn't have any of that. Cal died in 2019.

Softball goes to the Olympics in 2028 for the summer games in Los Angles, maybe she's thinking of trying that.

I see there are a couple sisters from Oklahoma going into the portal, one is a right hand pitcher. I believe they are from Indiana, so maybe they'd like to come back to Big 10 country.

Here is a link to the announcement by USA Softball on the 36 players selected for the US National Team athlete pool. The team will be coached by Oklahoma's coach, Patty Gasso. There are only 7 current D1 college players on the list with Jordy being one of them.
