Ok all you insiders what is going on with ED ? Coach Rhule cannot really bring him back again can he? With all the Coaching change's so far and Roster movement could he just be waiting until after the Bowl game. And I pray that we invest in a Long snapper in the portal

He did but against Iowa we had a bad snap create a missed fg and a Botched punt catch turn into 3 points for Iowa. Also Punt returners catching the Ball at the 3 yard line and another one catch a kick off and step out of bounds at the 3 when the ball was headed out of bounds. lots of shooting ourselves in the foot plus 2 or 3 blocked punts vs Rutgers , Although the fake punt was creative and worked in that game and yes the kicker improved but the rest of Special teams did not

There's a lot wrong with ST still. I really don't want Foley to get another shot at it.

If Rhule keeps him, then things better improve. Need to get at least 1 proven long snapper through the portal. And the all around ST performance has to get markedly better. I don't hold out much hope that the same dude can make that happen. But we'll see what Rhule does.

100% agree with you. Wasn’t saying he is what we need. Was just pointing out the improved kicking which was refreshing because it seems like it’s been years since we had decent FG kicking. Absolutely plenty of struggles elsewhere in STs. When was our last punt return for a TD?

I get ya!! The snaps were the biggest issue and Kicking improved after Brett Maher was brought in as a consultant so it might not have had anything to do with ED
 




OMG, after all the games we lost that could’ve been won with decent ST play…how could anyone justify bringing him back?! The problems aren’t just related to one or two players; they are systemic. If MR can’t recognize that and doesn’t prioritize this, then he’ll be chasing three indefinitely…and never catching it.

Foley’s gotta go.
 
My only hope comes from what HCMR said in the presser today when asked about pressure to fill coached positions. His first priority has been on meeting with the current players and landing this excellent recruiting class. The fact that he hasn’t fired Foley (yet) might simply be as the more pressing need is the players. He said he wants to make the right decisions on coaching changes. Might simply be this, and it would be the correct decision assuming he moves on from Foley and brings in a new ST coach. Again, my hope and if this ends up being the case, it would be the right approach.

I don't think the beef most have with Foley has to do with place kicking but more with our consistently awful kick and punt returns.

I believe that Bret Maher was brought in as an analyst to work with the kickers midway through the season.

The multiple failures and breakdowns with every other aspect of the special teams is why Special Ed needs to move along.

Yep. With punt returns, a person has to believe one of two things:

1- On the entire 150 man roster, there does not exist even a handful of guys with the ability to block someone in the open field long enough to let your returner avoid a fair catch, or
2- the coach, scheme, and teaching methods are the issue

Pretty tough argument that its #1.
