So long Alex, you were much too young.





I went into my Sociology of Sport class yesterday and asked the room full of young college athletes if they had ever heard of Alex Karras. No hands were raised. So I gave them a thumbnail sketch of his career with the Lions and in Hollywood, and then showed them the famous Mongo clip from Blazing Saddles. They about fell out of their chairs with laughter when the horse went down. Loved him also in the the Paper Lion movie about Plimpton. Good guy.
