Sick of losing, but...

I agree - I wasn’t calling him out as the scapegoat. I was responding to a post that was specific to the QB. I thought the whole team showed up today, and yet mistakes lost them the game. That said, I think he doesn’t see the field well enough to be a great QB. I don’t think there’s evidence to support otherwise.
Great? I don't know. But he's a big reason why this game was even close.

You didn't watch the OSU game? They did.

Oh...you mean why don't they keep doing things that work? Good question.

Doing things that work is just what they expect our guys to do! By doing things that don’t work, they can surprise the opponent! It’s the perfect plan really.

The OP alluded to some optimism - that is we played reasonably well against a ranked team. And that is true. Throw out the debacle of a game against Illinois, and I’d say the level of play is better this year than last year.

Someone posted in the game thread something like 45 of the 75 players on the travel roster were either freshmen or sophomores. We’re a young team that I think is getting better. Let the younger players grow into their roles. The mistakes will decrease and the wins will start to happen.

We're getting close!!!

Oh, and I also believe in unicorns and rainbows!

That wouldn't matter against good teams. But I don’t think it’s a strategy as much as it is “oh well, why not” with this staff. No rhyme or reason to be found with most things we do.
So I guess I am not getting what you are saying. Are you saying Iowa is not a good team?

I guess they seem like a pretty good team to me.

Tom Brady would look like crap with this O line. The O Line Coach needs to be shown the door immediately.

I'm sick of losing football games. Maybe it gets easier for some fans, but I hate it every time. And I mean HATE it.

Overall, the Huskers played well today. There were some mistakes, but for the most part we did most things reasonably well against a ranked opponent.

Iowa had averaged 33 ppg this season, but managed just 26 against the Huskers.

The Hawkeyes had given up just 16 ppg this season, good for 9th in the country. We scored 20.

Our defense gave up just 322 yards, including just 129 yards rushing.

Martinez completed 18 of 20 passes... 90%!!!

But there were bad things, too. Snaps really need to get fixed. Despite limiting Iowa's rushing yards, we allow runners to drag our defenders after contact, and we still need to wrap up better... especially some guys in the secondary.

We still haven't figured out much of a rushing game on offense. I have to think that Mills' absence is a part of that, but we're doing some ugly things along the line. At times it looks like laziness... feet aren't moving well, and guys are lunging. We don't pressure QBs enough, which might be ok if we weren't playing so loose on the back end.

Anyway, I think it's ok to recognize both the good and the bad. And to maybe not continuously call for firings.
Love your focus, agree with the loss thing.
I told myself early on, we cant run,we lose.
To me, unless our D goes super good, we cant run, we lose.

I can't believe my luck, convinced myself that we would pull this one out only to have my hopes dashed.... then I walked outside to scream and I got hit in the head with a leftover dinner roll. From the arc it appeared that someone threw it a country mile... find that guy and sign him up!!
It was Cam who hiked it pal

I really wanted to win this game today. I was disappointed that the 4th quarter mistakes doomed us to another frustrating loss. But this team played much better this week against a much better team on the road. I call that progress. We certainly displayed our usual warts but we did enough to beat Iowa on the road.

Three stinking plays. Turn those things around and we probably win. If and buts I guess.
1. The fumbled punt.
2. The holding on AM's long run.
3. The whiff by the 0'line that led to the sack/interception.

Outside of the bad snaps...the O did enough. The D bent and forced Iowa into 5 FG attempts. I know this team is not very good but IMO the whining on this site is becoming pathological. Thanks Huskrthill for seeing things clearly and posting rationally.

The muffed punt broke my heart. It came right after a big 3 & out by our defense at a time where we have folded in the past. Taylor-Britt probably feels awful about it.

We finally get a stop against Iowa inside their twenty and I'm convinced we march down and score. That muff just felt like the snap shot of Husker football for the last 10 years. Don't know what the answer is but I think the team is closer than many on this board believe.
