It's Nebraska! They've got boatloads of ways to lose. Not even the worst teams in football can lose the way NU does.
Yup! It's a failed program that still insists on putting tens, if not hundreds, of millions of dollars into the program. I think this off season will be very telling with players and commits jumping ship. I can't blame them. It might be time to jump to a smaller conference. It’s hard to argue any of this. Coach to coach, to coach, it’s always the same. No one makes losing more gut punching, than Nebraska. They are experts at their craft in this area. No one has any answers for it either. It’s seriously, a broken record on repeat. Sad.
C’mon man, that’s silly. It’s not like they aren’t competitive, they are, very, but they just like to make new ways to lose close games. No one does it like NU does. No one. Highly competitive, but they’ll blow it at the end. It’s just what they do.Yup! It's a failed program that still insists on putting tens, if not hundreds, of millions of dollars into the program. It's not really a fluke. When you suck at special teams, you're gonna lose a lot of close games. And we've sucked at special teams for years and across multiple coaching staffs.Sadly, this team is a joke. They lose a game where they allowed 164 total yards and 5 first downs. ESPN Analytics would probably put this at a 5% chance of losing…but, of course, Nebraska achieves. This university has just achieved a complete culture of losing. Firing Rhule won’t change this. Its become endemIc. It just is…what they are.
Back-to-back walkoff losses to Iowa's 3rd string QB! I think I feel like most of the Chief's opponents this season
Iowa has Corky playing qb. The talent is on campus.Yeah, it’s a philosophy that’s inconsistent with Nebraska history and tradition. Some coaches are perfectly comfortable with missing on 1st and 2nd down because all you need is one good play out of three to get the first down. Nebraska fans, the older ones, like to make some progress on every down.
But we probably don’t have enough playmakers, like for example Colorado, to make this more high flying offense work yet.
Hey at least we lose the same way consistently. So we got that going for us.It's Nebraska! They've got boatloads of ways to lose. Not even the worst teams in football can lose the way NU does.
You might be joking but there is truth to that. We are very very consistent and I am not even sure how you accomplish that so adeptly.Hey at least we lose the same way consistently. So we got that going for us.
Something so consistent seems like it would be easy to fix. You'd think. You might be joking but there is truth to that. We are very very consistent and I am not even sure how you accomplish that so adeptly.
Maybe because it is so engrained that it’s harder? I don’t know. I am interested only to hear from DH after this loss. Don’t care what Rhule has to say.Something so consistent seems like it would be easy to fix. You'd think.
Expressing frustration with my last sentence and it was relevant for me . Better football players make for better coaches that is for sure. On to the next game.Well, most of your post is interesting and I agree with it. But I’m not sure where you got the idea we were a good team.
You’re being sick and tired of it isn’t really relevant to anything, but thanks for sharing.
4 plays lost this game. 2 were special team’s plays. One was on the defense and one on the offense. Those 4 plays were the difference in the game and directly resulted in the 13 points for Iowa and taking 3 off the board for us. Nebraska dominated the rest of the game. The margin of error for a flawed team is narrow. The hiring of DH was a good first step. A few more changes may need to be made by Rhule and hopefully he can upgrade some position coaches in the offseason. In the meanwhile, recruiting more talent is what’s needed to make games like this a thing of the past.
Good list. I would add Dylan missing the deep ball to Lloyd (I think). DR has missed these types of throws multiple times this year. I like him as our QB, but this is something I look forward to him fixing as he grows.Well, this one came down to 4 plays.
1. A missed field goal
2. A mishandled punt
3. One defensive breakdown
4. A blown assignment/execution by an offensive lineman resulted in a strip sack.
Bill Callahan "flipped the culture" with Steve Pederson in 2004. We've generally been chasing the passing game ever since. It’s been about 8-10 years, not 20.
I meant that I'm not committed to the "wait for global warming to heat up Nebraska" strategy. But if you’re not willing to be committed, don’t be. Just give up and go do something else on a dozen Saturdays in the fall. No one is forcing this on you.
It's fitting to me that I'm reading this on the 10 year anniversary of the firing of the last coach to lead our program to consistently high win totals. I would love 90s-like success, but I certainly don't expect it. I hope that Rhule finds the formula for winning at Nebraska. I hope he takes some time to honestly evaluate the season and his performance. I've given him kudos for making a change at OC, but there's more to be done. Our special teams have been a liability for a good chunk of the past two seasons. Our defense has been good at times, but it lacks consistency. And our offensive philosophy has been garbage (that's putting it gently).DH made some progress in three weeks. I hope he stays to continue it. When will we have enough playmakers? Hopefully, in the next few years. If not, I would assume we will gut the program and start over again. But in the meantime, I’m hoping these coaches can continue to develop and recruit players and coaches that will get us back to success.
Now what is success you might ask? It’s probably not going to be undefeated seasons year after year like the 90’s. Probably be a good idea to accept that fact. Anyone who calls 9-10 win seasons failures should probably just give up now.
