Shocking! How do you do that?

It makes a ton of sense to throw in that situation. Especially because it was a tight game and really cold.

I mentioned it in the game thread, but offensive coordinators (not just at Nebraska) get very skittish when a run doesn't go for a big gain, but they never lose faith in the passing game, even after losses, sacks, incompletions, or interceptions.

It's an interesting phenomenon.
Only thing OCs seem to like throwing the ball in more than the cold is the wind

Still room for improvement on offense for sure.

Explain. Was the call to the wide open receiver who simply dropped the ball a bad call? How about the other drops?

I don’t buy into the argument that simply because the offense struggles, that the OC called a bad game. I would have liked to see more running midway through the 4th quarter. We were knocking Iowa off the line and moving the ball well.

But on to the bowl game.
Did I like every play called? No But as you say when the ball hits you in the hands you should maybe catch it. Bad snaps on Field goals are not the OC's fault. Missing tackles are not the OC's fault. Short punts and , I don't know what to call it, muffed punts? Are not the OC's fault. The stats show we out played them but good teams do not beat themselves and that is what Nebraska did tonight. But I am here to tell you it eats worms and I am sick and tired of it.

What’s really shocking is the number of times that we have lost to Iowa 13–10 by a walk off field goal.

You cannot expect to have a winning team when you play special teams this poorly. This is by far our biggest problem. If you can’t catch kicks/punts and hike the ball to the holder, then you aren’t going to win….period.

Well, most of your post is interesting and I agree with it. But I’m not sure where you got the idea we were a good team.

You’re being sick and tired of it isn’t really relevant to anything, but thanks for sharing.

4 plays lost this game. 2 were special team’s plays. One was on the defense and one on the offense. Those 4 plays were the difference in the game and directly resulted in the 13 points for Iowa and taking 3 off the board for us. Nebraska dominated the rest of the game. The margin of error for a flawed team is narrow. The hiring of DH was a good first step. A few more changes may need to be made by Rhule and hopefully he can upgrade some position coaches in the offseason. In the meanwhile, recruiting more talent is what’s needed to make games like this a thing of the past.

Yeah, it’s a philosophy that’s inconsistent with Nebraska history and tradition. Some coaches are perfectly comfortable with missing on 1st and 2nd down because all you need is one good play out of three to get the first down. Nebraska fans, the older ones, like to make some progress on every down.

But we probably don’t have enough playmakers, like for example Colorado, to make this more high flying offense work yet.

Well, this one came down to 4 plays.

1. A missed field goal
2. A mishandled punt
3. One defensive breakdown
4. A blown assignment/execution by an offensive lineman resulted in a strip sack.
There were more plays, but that is a good list

Minus a handful of seasons, we've been trying for 20 years. When will we have enough playmakers for it? I suppose we could wait for global warming to heat things up in Nebraska, but I'm not sure I can stay committed to such a long term strategy.

It’s been about 8-10 years, not 20. But if you’re not willing to be committed, don’t be. Just give up and go do something else on a dozen Saturdays in the fall. No one is forcing this on you.

DH made some progress in three weeks. I hope he stays to continue it. When will we have enough playmakers? Hopefully, in the next few years. If not, I would assume we will gut the program and start over again. But in the meantime, I’m hoping these coaches can continue to develop and recruit players and coaches that will get us back to success.

Now what is success you might ask? It’s probably not going to be undefeated seasons year after year like the 90’s. Probably be a good idea to accept that fact. Anyone who calls 9-10 win seasons failures should probably just give up now.

Well after watching the end of the Georgia game tonight they announcers said several times that the win tonight guaranteed Georgia a trip to the playoff even if they lose next week and would be 10-3 so I guess three loses doesn't keep a team out either anymore

To be honest, there isn't really anything to be shocked about with this and previous other HUSKER teams losing games over the past decade as just when you think you've seen all the ways the HUSKERS can lose a game, they convincingly and emphatically follow thru with another one for the books. With the exception of a few plays, they dominated both the stats & the Hawkeyes only to once again find a way to turn a win into another simply head scratching and confounding loss. I have no clue what is wrong when it comes to the mindset of a team that continually finds a way to effortlessly give away games that should have been solid wins. It will sound crazy but the HUSKERS at times seem to take up residency in the Twilight Zone with mind boggling results.

It’s a new world of college football.

Sadly, this team is a joke. They lose a game where they allowed 164 total yards and 5 first downs. ESPN Analytics would probably put this at a 5% chance of losing…but, of course, Nebraska achieves. This university has just achieved a complete culture of losing. Firing Rhule won’t change this. Its become endemIc. It just is…what they are.
It’s hard to argue any of this. Coach to coach, to coach, it’s always the same. No one makes losing more gut punching, than Nebraska. They are experts at their craft in this area. No one has any answers for it either. It’s seriously, a broken record on repeat. Sad.
