Rutledge out as ST Analyst

Out of curiosity....who would you move from full time to analyst?
Verduzco or Beckton. Special Teams Coordinator guy could be your TEs coach since they go with OL during blocking and WRs during routes anyway. But you could also have Frost do QBs and really take hold of the development for that position group and have your dedicated special teams guy just be special teams.

Dan Jackson would be able to get your foot immediately back in Omaha
Carlos Polk would immediately give you pipeline into Illinois

Just throwing those names out since they've been thrown around. Jackson passed on the analyst job last year because he wanted to be an on the field coach. Polk wouldn't come to be an analyst last year either.

Any chance of getting Snyder away from USC after only a year?

Good question. I really don't know. He was making roughly 200k at Kansas State so i'm sure USC was paying him 300-400? We could pay Jackson more than he's making. Busch was making 450k at LSU before being let go and he lives here I believe.

A lot of the guys passed on the job because it was an analyst job and not a full-time gig.

In the Athletic article Rutledge says that Cerni getting injured was a devastating blow. He also says that while the specials teams didn't play up to his standards, a lot of what happened this year was out of his control ... and he's not seemingly trying to avoid taking responsibility. He seems to be saying, rather, that the team needs a dedicated coach rather than an analyst. In other words, he implies that just adding another analyst to the team to replace him might not make much difference. But he also said that the culture of special teams is not where it needs to be on the team, though it is getting there. On the second (I think it was, or maybe the first) fake punt that was perpetrated against us, he said that there were only 10 NU guys on the field. They couldn't find the 11th guy. He said that the punt return team is the hardest one to get out on the field. He didn't explain why exactly, but that it just is that way. All in all he did take responsibility but like I said, he implied that it's hard to really do a good job as an analyst rather than being an actual coach, because he had no control over what happened with coaching the special teams on the field. He praised Frost and all the other coaches. Said they are good at Xs and Os and and recruiting, which isn't always the case in coaching staffs. He came across very well and didn't place any blame, other than on himself. It's obvious there were just a lot of limitations.

Also, Rutledge mentioned teams like Iowa who have had the same coaching staff for years and years, so they have this culture in place and the way they do everything (like special teams) so it just happens there, happens more naturally, because it's been in place for so long.

Levar Woods is a full time special teams coach at Iowa with no positional responsibilities. We had an analyst who can't even have contact with our kids or coaches on gameday. He wrecks shop recruiting in Omaha as well. Interesting he mentioned them specifically.

EDIT:

Go look at the Iowa game from the kickoff perspective, this is when I knew there was a problem:

Iowa Kickoff Results:
Touchback
Touchback
Touchback
Brown return of 19 yards to the 21 yard line
Touchback
Brown return of 19 yards to the 21 yard line

Nebraska Kickoff Results:
Iowa returns it 17 yards to the 32 yard line
Pooch kick high to the 30, bobbled and recovered by Iowa
Fair catch on the pooch at the 30
Fair catch on the pooch at the 31
Iowa returns it 23 yards to the 34

Iowa average field position after kickoffs: 31.4
Nebraska average field position after kickoffs: 23.6

Almost a 10 yard difference. That stuff matters. This doesn't even include our punter coffin cornering it to the 35 yard line a couple times.

This is an interesting take since many on here have advocated for SF to take over Special Teams so that they are properly emphasized. Especially when so many people on the board have expressed the opinion that SF shouldn't be coaching at NU at all. Just points out how wide of a range there is in what NU fans currently feel will make things better.

Sorry, posted before writing any content. So, edited.
