I don't see where we are getting that a big performance from EJ wasn't projected. That's pretty revisionist and many of us expected him to have a big season. No I never said that …. EJ was our best back since Burkhead/Abdullah. He had a historical season.
Projecting who can replace EJ next season is the discussion.
EJ had a great great season, unprojectable from historical performance but IMO we can’t discount a jump in performance from current rostered RBs even though their 2025 performance was less than EJs 2024 performance.
I do not think anyone will have 1,400+ yards rushing but I do think Ives and/or Mozee could have a 1,000 yards or so.
Putting into a season context, doesn't capture the events of last year. You break it down to before Holgerson and after Holgerson and almost 60% of his production was in only 4 of the 13 games played. That included almost 200 rushing/receiving against Wisconsin. Those game averages after Holgerson would project to 1000 rushing/500 receiving over a 12 game season.
Because of how he ended the season and having an off-season with Holgerson, going into to the season, we were talking about a Kendal Hunter type season, so the expectations were very high.
We currently have nobody in the backfield that has flashed to the level of EJ at the end of last season. In fact, we saw big drop-offs when he came out of the game. Nelson had a nice opening drive against Utah, but that's about it.
