Running Back

No I never said that …. EJ was our best back since Burkhead/Abdullah. He had a historical season.

Projecting who can replace EJ next season is the discussion.

EJ had a great great season, unprojectable from historical performance but IMO we can’t discount a jump in performance from current rostered RBs even though their 2025 performance was less than EJs 2024 performance.

I do not think anyone will have 1,400+ yards rushing but I do think Ives and/or Mozee could have a 1,000 yards or so.
I don't see where we are getting that a big performance from EJ wasn't projected. That's pretty revisionist and many of us expected him to have a big season.

Putting into a season context, doesn't capture the events of last year. You break it down to before Holgerson and after Holgerson and almost 60% of his production was in only 4 of the 13 games played. That included almost 200 rushing/receiving against Wisconsin. Those game averages after Holgerson would project to 1000 rushing/500 receiving over a 12 game season.

Because of how he ended the season and having an off-season with Holgerson, going into to the season, we were talking about a Kendal Hunter type season, so the expectations were very high.

We currently have nobody in the backfield that has flashed to the level of EJ at the end of last season. In fact, we saw big drop-offs when he came out of the game. Nelson had a nice opening drive against Utah, but that's about it.

Remember back in the day, Frazier, Frost, Crouch, 4th down, a yard or less, up under center and go, straight ahead right behind the center? Never stopped. I’m not even sure NU has the ability to really get under center and execute such a simple play anymore. Basic stuff, if taught. Should be in every single playbook. I’ll never understand a handoff in the backfield with such short yardage needed. Ever. Goes for anyone. It was the tush push, before such a thing existed.
Yep, run the damn ball!! Watching NE close out the 4th qtr by RUNNING THE DAMN BALL!

I want to see no more fade routes in goalline offense!! Run the ball like you s

Only if we have a QB that can throw a fade, on time, on target. Only happened a couple of time last season.

As I have mentioned in the past, they must kill that pass in practice or else DH wouldn't call that play in games.

Even on time, that play is so predictable! You can tell that is the play before the ball is even snapped!

The fade was one of the throws that DR just couldn’t consistently make. Odd, as it’s a staple for QBs with his pretty solid passing skill set. I am not convinced that it was all on him, but at this point that doesn’t make any difference.

Sure but maybe improved O-Line along with an RPO QB will mitigate some of the need.
I think our O line will be better and our scheme better. Now add in the threat of a running QB, while it may inhibit our run game if they keep the safeties up, that depends on how much we hurt them in the pass game, and we have a very good WR room.

RE: O-Line

Hard to imagine we won’t be better

1. Coaching has got to improve. Regardless of your opinion of Donovan R … having two established guys is incrementally better than one. I also think, regardless of your opinion of Donovan R … that a change is needed.

2. Time for Rhule’s recruits to contribute. Brix, Tuama and others need to contribute. We’ve been playing mostly with SFs recruits who were brought in for a different system.

3. We’ve got two starters and two others who have started. Lots of experience. Not counting our portal transfers.

4. A mobile QB has got to help the OLine.

I never liked the pace in the growth of the O line under Donnie. MR said he worked his tail off, but I believe in not only work smarter not harder, but work harder and smarter.
Seems Geep may just be the guy
