Roger Craig Elected To The Pro Football Hall Of Fame

Davies scored 14 TDS His Entire career. Roger scored 15 his Soph year and 28 over 3 years. I did not say Craig was the best FB ever at Nebraska. I said he was the best RB around the goal Line and in Short Yardage. Also said My opinion. AS great as you named were and I know some of them personally. NONE was Rogers equal at the Goal Line. Tom Osborne himself mentions him as the best. But I am sure you know best,I think if you had to score from the 50 on one Play you probably give the ball to Rozier, but on 4th and 3rd down at the Goal line. It was Craig. That Soph year he was 3rd string but was always in the game on 3rd or 4th and goal and usually was automatic.
Davies scored all of his TDs as a fullback. Craig did not. Craig was an IB who played FB to get on the field. The majority of RCs TDs were from the IB position.

To declare someone as the best ever in such a subjective subject and not expect counterpoints does not seem reasonable. I’m not trying to be combative. But I am offering others alternatives to your statement.

For me Corey Schlesinger’s highlighted by his two TDs in the Orange Bowl stand out as the best ever.

Great guy and a great player. Actually met him once at LAX airport. He was waiting for his daughter at the gate. I’m not surprised it took a little time for him to get in. I always thought he was an “in betweener” based on his stats and there are some pretty good players who are not in the Hall of Fame. But I’m glad he made it

Also his name compared to some of the other names on the 49ers squad wasn’t quite as impressive.

Thought we had another back that was briefly with the 49er's at the time Craig and Rathman were there (might have been preseason and was cut?). I remember seeing a game where the announcers called it the "Husker back-attack".

I don't remember anyone else, but I am forgetful. I put the question to Google AI "What ex-Nebraska football players played with Roger Craig and Tom Rathman for the San Francisco 49ers?". This is the answer I received:

Tight end Jamie Williams is the primary former Nebraska Cornhusker who played with both Roger Craig and Tom Rathman for the San Francisco 49ers, contributing to their championship run. Williams was a teammate of both players during the late 1980s, including the 1989 season (Super Bowl XXIV).
Key Details on Huskers with the 49ers:

  • Jamie Williams (TE): Played for the 49ers from 1989–1990, overlapping with both Craig (1983–1990) and Rathman (1986–1993).
  • Roger Craig (RB): 1983–1990.
  • Tom Rathman (FB): 1986–1993.
  • Context: These players were part of the 49ers' dynasty in the 1980s, with Craig and Rathman serving as a key "Husker" connection in the backfield.

Had to engage my brain a little (it hurt), but it was Doug Dubose I was thinking of.

Let me say this VERY SLOWLY so you can follow. Roger didn't move to FB to get on the field. He moved so Mike Rozier could get on the field with him,This may be hard for someone who wasn't there to understand but Roger was the Starter. going into the season as Great as Mike turned out to be No one knew for sure that would happen and maybe if Craig stays at IB we might never have known, but He was a Team 1st kind of guy. I think I saw every game of Schlesingers from Jr high to end of Huskers career. He was a great player but was NO Roger Craig. But You are obviously from your posts on here convinced YOU are the expert.

I stated clearly that I was stating my Opinion. Not sure why you felt it was your job to try to "counterpoint" my opinion. just because its not the same as yours doesn't invalidate it. Must be very miserable life to feel the need to tear down someone elses opinion so you can feel some sort of validation for your Own. I thought this was a thread about Roger being elected to the HOF. WHEN any of those others you felt the need to mention go in the Hall I am sure I will be glad to discuss how great they were also BUT this thread is about R Craig.

I love a good “fullback smack talk” to start a Super Bowl Sunday.

So what is wrong with me countering YOUR opinion with MY opinion? It’s a message board. It’s a dialogue. Why are you so sensitive to other perspectives?

Sure the thread is about RC and you made a statement about him being the best ever in short yardage and goal line situations. As great as Roger Craig is/was … in my opinion that is an inaccurate statement that diminishes the abilities and accomplishments of others. We can agree to disagree with that point. But am I not allowed to articulate a counterpoint to your statement or am I to assume that your statement because it is about an NFL HOFer is un-counter-able?

The majority of RCs TDs were as an I-Back. He does not have the most TDs as a fullback back. And for my perspective Corey Schlesinger was better.
