Roger Craig Elected To The Pro Football Hall Of Fame

A great teammate, I am sure most here know, but for those who may not. Roger offered to Move to FB his Sr year at Nebraska so that He and Mike Rozier could both get on the field at the same time,Then not only played the position but Excelled at it. Turner Gill,Roger Craig,Mike Rozier and Irving Fryer at Flanker or as we called it then WingBack.WHAT A Backfield that was. Roger was almost automatic when given the Ball near the Goal line,In my opinion still possibly the best short yardage rusher the Huskers have ever had.

Incredible backfield and offense overall. Those were the days.

In my opinion still possibly the best short yardage rusher the Huskers have ever had.
Not sure about that ... I absolutely love his willingness to sacrifice a part of his game to better the team but ...

Judd Davies (2000-2003) holds the career TD mark for fullbacks
Mark Schellen (1983) and Joel Mackovicka (1997) hold the season TD mark for fullbacks - 9 each.
Tom Rathman holds the mark for yards rushing in a season 881.
Andra Franklin holds the mark for yards rushing in a career 1,738.
Tony Davis like Craig played both IB and FB.
Andy Janovich and Corey Schlessinger deserve mention as well!

Zoom in a bit!

Thanks!

huge injustice finally corrected!
Amen. So happy about this. Easily one of my all time favorite Huskers.

Big Dolphin fan growing up, and watching that team get to Super Bowl XIX and facing Craig's 49er squad was unbelievable.

The fact San Francisco won that game didn't even phase me - because Roger Craig was electric and dominant and I enjoyed every moment of that.

So long overdue. My goodness what a travesty to have taken this long. If you read what an effect he had on those SF teams, both Jerry Rice and Joe Montana said he set the example for dedication, preparation and running The Hill. I loved to watch him play. His eyes (and Singletary's eyes) were always WIDE OPEN. He was unselfish during his days in Lincoln too, playing FB. Defeating The Hill made your high knee churn your trademark.

Congrats #21!

If i remember correctly, he was one of the leading scorers in the nation as a reserve Sophomore. I think he had 16 tds. Of course, i could be full of it

Edit
He had 15 tds as a reserve, behind Jarvis Redwine

You should be an Irving Fryar fan too then!

Davies scored 14 TDS His Entire career. Roger scored 15 his Soph year and 28 over 3 years. I did not say Craig was the best FB ever at Nebraska. I said he was the best RB around the goal Line and in Short Yardage. Also said My opinion. AS great as you named were and I know some of them personally. NONE was Rogers equal at the Goal Line. Tom Osborne himself mentions him as the best. But I am sure you know best,I think if you had to score from the 50 on one Play you probably give the ball to Rozier, but on 4th and 3rd down at the Goal line. It was Craig. That Soph year he was 3rd string but was always in the game on 3rd or 4th and goal and usually was automatic.

He was 3rd string but on 3rd or 4th and Goal he was in the game and I don't think he ever was stopped.

By the way Mark Schellen is one of the most under rated Fbs in Husker history, however He was Rogers Backup for 2 years

I think it was in 1990 or 1991.

Also, Jamie Williams was at TE wearing the decal. Those 3 started for 49ers at the same time.
Thought we had another back that was briefly with the 49er's at the time Craig and Rathman were there (might have been preseason and was cut?). I remember seeing a game where the announcers called it the "Husker back-attack".
