Lewis Yocum who was the orthopedic surgeon for the Angels for 36 years has died from liver cancer. He was part of the Kerlan-Jobe clinic in Los Angeles an was one of my team physicians when I was the athletic trainer for Cal State, Dominguez Hills in the late 1970s. I also rotated at the clinic when I was going to medical school at USC in 1981-82 and did several of their free Saturday morning free clinics for local athletes back then. I have seen him over the years at medical conferences and he always was a pleasure to be around.
He was a great surgeon and a great person and will be missed by his family, the Angels organization and major league baseball. Really sad to hear this news.
