Rhule's roster?

I don't think getting signed out of the portal means a roster lock anymore.

And how will a roster spot be defined? Can there be development players that don't count towards the roster limits?
As in a practice squad? I’ve no idea. I’m sure someone will probably try

A lot of this gets ironed out if the programs are on the same page with one another. Nothing is stopping the FBS schools from laying out ground rules and penalties. Numbers. Timelines. General guardrails for recruiting, rosters, etc. None of this impacts the players, who will/can get paid what they’ll get paid, but the programs can set up some structures for themselves. Of course they need to follow their own rules, which takes us back to the NCAA and why it never worked. It didn’t work because programs needed to behave ethically and not cheat. And that’s always the problem.

This is the kind of thing I’m talking about. Nothing about this impedes a player’s ability to earn NIL money or their free movement. But it helps, even slightly, corral some of the chaos. More of this by the coaches and programs would be good. Put a fence around it.

My gut tells me 105 is a hard number. If you are not on that list at the start of the season you can not participate that year. I could be wrong but I also have a hard time believing someone not on the top 4 units making a legit impact in a game that matters. I am sure there are examples that disprove my feelings.

My gut also has me thinking major colleges will start having allegiance with Jr. Colleges to put project players to work on strength or skills. Maybe that is how I would do it.

It’s a good point. What stops a top FBS program from using a decent FCS school as a AAA program and a JUCO as a AA program. The players can basically transfer at will, so take the 106-175 guys and farm them out to South Dakota State or Iowa Western for a few years. They can even get some NIL money too. It’s a complete farm league waiting to happen.

Especially now that JUCO doesn't count towards eligibility. You could have a guy come in with 2 years experience in your preferred system and 4-5 years of eligibility.

100%. But you need to pay for him all those years. That’s the separator. And I think that’s why many programs won’t make it.

So does this mean if he retires from the NFL in the off season we could bring Lavonte David back for a couple years?

I agree and Verghese is very informed. But I just can not watch him. He looks like a homeless guy. Dude your a professional. Trim your hair so it is not uneven.
I hope you're this critical when you look at yourself in the mirror.

Jesus man.
