They don’t have to be at the 105 roster limit until August from what I have heard. So it doesn’t matter right now how many you have on the roster. If someone knows different DM me. His goal is to get the BEST 105 players on his roster by the first game. I’m sure there will be more meetings after spring ball with the players they determine to be outside that 105 roster.
I think most of the "losses" will be in the WR and DB rooms. Those are definitely the rooms with the most fat to trim.
I wonder when the cut occurs ? Before or after fall camp?
after spring ball. ppl wont want transfers who miss the fall camp. it would be a waste of a year.

What I'm not quite following is this - yes we had something like 150 on the roster, but only 85 were scholarship. Of that 85, some amount are out of eligibility (I have no idea but let's go conservative and say 15) and another 26 (according to 247Sports) have entered the transfer portal. That's approx 41 scholarship openings. And they increased the number of scholarships by 20 (up to 105). Doesn't that mean we have 61 openings?
Yes, a few walk-ons will be given scholarships, but I expect most will be moving on.
Our incoming class is 20, and we've signed 16 from the portal (247Sports as of this am). That's 36.
Seems to me we are just fine and can continue adding from the portal.

You make a good point if you are looking at just the purely scholarship number. I think what most people are seeing is that we had 150, lost the 15 graduates and 26 transfers so that puts us at 109 as there has not been any announcement of a wave of walk ons leaving the program. We signed 36 new scholarship players so that puts us at 145 total players until they make known who they are removing from the team. My guess is there will be most of the walk-ons and still some scholarship guys after the spring that are going to leave. So 41 more guys at least have to be removed before bringing in any more room for transfers that would be on scholarship. It is just a numbers game and depends how they are having these conversations behind the scenes with the players. Maybe there are already that many that won't be reporting for workouts at the end of the month, we just don't know that yet. So yes there is room to add more transfers if we remove more people for sure.

I think when you start talking about scholarships or walk ons it just complicates it too much. Forget scholarships, and forget walk ons.
When we walked off the field after the Iowa game we had 150 players on the roster. Before we take the field for the next game we can only have 105 players on the roster. That's really the only thing that matters.
How we get to 105 is the complicated part. New recruiting class and portal additions come in, seniors graduate and portal players leave. Also some players may just leave football. But in the end we have 105 players all are on scholarship.
Can't say from an old guy's love of cfb that I like this but in today's world, this is genius. If it's accurate.
I said that in another thread that some of the new portal transfers may only be here for spring practice and need to leave if they are not ready to compete/make the 105.

Yeah, some folks think that the incoming transfers are here to stay, the numbers say otherwise. The transfers are here to compete. If they don't show out, here's a check, thanks for stoppin' by.
