Rhule reportedly turned us down. Update: Well Maybe Not

Because his losing seasons all come with someone else’s recruits in his first year of coaching a team. You can’t recruit for the job that you don’t have. Once again, you are making no sense at all.
No, no...Don't stop him now. He's going 110 mph into a blind turn!

I just waded through the last 15 painful pages of this thread. After a while I gave up reading and just had to skim.

OG, you certainly are tenacious with your position, and you're certainly entitled to it. I'm not rosy on Rhule, but cautiously hopeful.

Something to consider that I don't recall seeing (might have skimmed over it, sorry) is that we don't need a new coach to transport us directly to the Holy Land by year three. All we really need is a coach that can move our needle back towards relevance from the depths of mediocrity. Then, if he bails, or we decide he is not getting it done as much as we wanted, at least we will be less of a train wreck than present day, and thus a more appealing job for the next coach to take us to the next level. That might be a two or three coach process.

It would be nice to start bowling again more often than not. Maybe get ranked once in a while. Maybe even appear in a CCG, wow! Progress matters more than perfection right now, for the long game. IMO Rhule may not take us to the Holy Land, but I'm supremely confident he can move our needle and get us on our way. For now, for me, forward progress is enough.

+1

Either way it’s tough to ignore. He’s like Mike Riley on steroids, lots of losing, with some big time seasons mixed it. As for your 2 for 2, yeah, that’s debatable, as he didn’t stick around to SEE if it could be sustained. Correct? We don’t know what follows an 11-3 season because he’s left when he’s had one. He’s also sucked against ranked teams, even in those very good seasons. That’s a problem Nebraska already has. Again, solid coach, remains to be seen if he can be great. I’ll take the flyer on Mickey. Rhule isn’t worth 8-9 million per year.
You’re choosing to slant the data in an attempt to favor your position because you wanted Mickey. I get it. I love Mickey and I’d be happy with him as head coach. He doesn’t have a track record for me to make the argument, but what I know of him I think he would be a winner with his own staff and players. Unfortunately, I don’t think Alberts had the luxury of taking such a chance. And he can probably get the best of both by Rhule retaining Mickey Joseph, which I think he will.

It's humorous to me that people ding Rhule for his short stints at his previous collegiate jobs. Why would any coach stay at Temple when a P5 school comes calling? And how can you hold it against Rhule that he left Baylor for a chance in the NFL and 62 mil guaranteed?
Humorous? How so? It’s still a pattern, and his pattern is leaving for better jobs, so who’s to say he doesn’t bail on Nebraska after 2-3 years when USC, or Penn State, or someone else come calling? That’s if he does a good enough job at Nebraska to warrant it. Nebraska needs something stable and effective. Rhule is a good coach, and I give him more credit than I would most who are 3 games over .500 in his college career. Don’t get attached.

Not trying to slant anything. It’s pretty factual. We shall see what happens. Alberts taking a chance? Yeah, he’s definitely taking one with Rhule as well. By the way, I’m not a Rhule hater. He can coach.

He had A couple good seasons just like a lot of coaches have had. Scott had a good year at UCF as did Riley at his stops times. but it looks like UNL is about to hire a coach with the worst win lose record in 60 years at Nebraska let that set in. And by the way his 1 winning season at Baylor he did with Briles recruits.
You’re just repeating the same thing over and over. Your argument doesn’t get more convincing by simply repeating it.

Official roster has 25 offensive linemen listed. One source has 14 of them scholarship. Assuming the other 11 are walk-ons. I agree that we are waiting/needing the development, coaching and strategy.
I see one Big Ten offensive tackle on the roster, Prochazka. I thought Banks had potential, and he may yet. Alex Conn is too young to write off. He looked like he had the feet and athleticism for an OT coming out of high school so he may develop into a solid player. Ezra Miller, the Iowa transfer has been a bit of a mystery. He has had some struggles with his mental health (public knowledge) but my understanding is that he’s doing okay. I’m not sure if he might be projecting more at the interior line. There are a lot more questions than answers at the OT position. The new staff will have to go after a couple of transfers/JUCOs.

I do think the interior O line has some guys with ability. We’re in better shape there.

Corcoran, Benhart, Piper, Prohaska everyone was high on when they signed. I honestly believe these guys could make a serviceable line if they ran schemes that let them succeed. We need to move the pocket more and possibly use a tight end in backfield once in a while.
Benhardt doesn’t have the feet to play OT in the B1G. He’s a liability there. Corcoran needs to be playing guard. He’s not a tackle. If we can get a couple of OTs who are ready to play next season, with better coaching we could have a serviceable O line in 2023.

You say he can recruit but his win lose record says different, if I guy can recruit why is he on the losing end more than not. or is like our storyline top 25 recruiting and 3 wins per year. If he could recruit he’d have more wins
Dear jesus, I just want to constantly pound my head against the wall..... Do you honestly read aloud what your saying? No, of course you dont! :Banghead:

Look at the debt chart he road Briles recruits. The chart doesn’t lie.
Just to chime in here, seems that rhule would have been losing with briles recruits until filling out the roster with his own recruits. If briles players were so fantastic without rhule, why were they losing rhule first year and then started to win??
Rhules coaching record is pretty good (you can do the math) when he has a roster with his own player. Unlike the last 5 years when the team got worse the more frost spent with returning/new players.
