Sure. If Matt Rhule said the athletic department was bankrupt or even unusually low on money, I would believe him.

But the OP didn’t cite to a statement by MR either.

If, as was suggested above, the point of the post is to tell us that Nebraska has a finite amount of money to spend each year on players, or that there is a limit to how much they will spend on a single player, I think we can all be in agreement that this statement is true.

the above clearly means Matt had a limited budget to work with, others had more, and by not being able to get what he really wanted, that tells me he ran out of money to spend.

Maybe the juice wasn't worth the squeeze with some of this. Nothing would crater a locker room faster than having a few new guys roll in with multi million dollar NIL deals when said new guys haven't done anything as a Husker. NIL is important moving forward, but culture has to remain as well.

As someone who deals with words for a living, the statement of the original post is not identical to the posts by MR. The original post said the athletic department is out of money.

MR said we don’t have as much money as other teams do. That statement can be true without the athletic department being out of money. (Unless you assume that MR and the administration are willing to spend every dollar the Athletic Department has on one season’s football team.)

He went on to say that other teams had more money than MR had to spend. That also doesn’t equate to the athletic department is out of money. It just means they had more money that MR had to spend in his recruiting budget for the football program. This statement can also be true without the athletic department being out of money.

I’m not sure I expect everyone to understand or accept the distinctions being made. But that’s ok. Everyone applies their own bias to whatever is said and will generally see whatever supports their beliefs. I personally see a great deal of space between the words of the OP and the words that MR spoke. To see them as the same, one needs to make assumptions that may not be true.

not far off does mean nearly the same and nearly the same does not mean identical. I can't believe you came back with more instead of just saying you goofed. Typical of many posters on here, egos won't allow them to just admit their mistake.. but I guess after your post telling us how you "deal with words", then I guess I can understand not wanting to admit such a mistake.
