Rhule ran out of cash.

Naw, NU just announced a NEW varsity sport....women's flag football! Between coaches, schollies, equipment, travel etc... that's a couple of linemen at least! What a joke!
Wait until they have a better season's record than the men's team! If pay should reflect performance, then the bulk of our payouts should go to Women's Bowling, Women's Volleyball, Wrestling, and the two Basketball and Baseball teams. Instead, the bulk is going to Football, and after a couple years of this now, we are not seeing success there that is commensurate with the level of payout. What really is the goal of our Athletics Program these days?

FB is where the big donor money is generated. There was a thread a bit back about the 16 or so athletic departments, including NU that recieve no University $ ( and NUs actually gives to the Univ). Not many teams outside FB actually operate in the black, although NUs volleyball and mens BB do, ( not sure about women's BB). For the most part, FB drives and funds the other sports. Women's flag football, bowling and rifle dont, (as well as wrestling, baseball, gymnastics etc...)

Seriously, is this way college sports should be conducted? Time was when a really good coach could put together/develop a really good team. Today you just buy your players. Still probably takes a good coach, but dollars more than anything else.
Yes. You need a good to great coach that can put it all together on the field. I don’t think NU has that. I supported Rhule at first, but having watched his blunders repeatedly over the past 3 years during games, he is probably just an average to poor game day coach with little innovation and imagination. I don’t have much faith in him anymore, but also know, because of that extension, NU cannot afford to fire him anytime soon. Going to have to hope he gets better.

As for NIL, just looking around, it appears the top teams in spending have bagmen with serious cash to spend. Nebraska doesn’t have that. Look at what LSU has done, and Louisiana is a very poor state. Someone(s) (raisin caines) is fronting serious money. They have signed top notch players. They should be in position to contend next year. Texas Tech, A&M, LSU, Miami, Oregon, Texas (although it appears they have dropped back some), are the real spenders. Looks like Ohio State and Michigan have even fallen back some. I’m not sure how many can constantly keep this up, year after year after year?

The costs keep rising, with no real end or stabilization in sight. Remember when in 2022 Ryan Day told his boosters at a function it was going to cost 13 mm to keep his current roster in tact? Look where we are now? People balked at that cost then, like, 13 mm is a bargain compared to now. Right now, 13 mm buys you a roster full of 1-2* players. Today, to be highly competitive, you realistically need 35-40 mm every year. That will only go up, and is going higher. Where is NU? Maybe 25-27 mm? That’s probably 2-3 big time, top OL, a big time DT, a head hunting safety and a stellar RB at minimum. That’s a huge difference. Better have a coach like Cignetti who can seriously evaluate talent and put the system together. Few have that, so they need overwhelming talent to win. For most, it’s like pushing a melting snowball uphill. I guess we will see.

They don’t know. Only look to the AD deeming an extension to Rhule was a grand idea, when he already had 5 years remaining after this season. Let’s add women’s flag football? How stupid. That shouldnt suck away any more cash. If anything, they should be dropping sports, not adding.

OK, final final offer, no wins lose the off season and DONU is in severe debt
Throw in a clause where Rhule dresses like Tom Landry and I'm there.

That’s why GMs and business analytics are so crucial now. Most coaches are ill fitted to also be GMs. In this new age, the GM is boss man.

From just two days ago:
Nebraska volleyball’s ticket sales exceeded $3 million in 2024-25, but the program failed to turn a profit.
