Requesting Prayers for my Wife (updated 2023 - see p. 78)

Time for an update, but I don't have the time right now to type everything. Still appreciate the prayers. I guess at this point everyone assumes that Steph is well on the road to recovery. As she has come off the Prednisone and Meloxicam, she no longer feels like Superwoman, and has reverted back to where she felt in a lot of ways when she first got home. Lung capacity is very low. Early this morning she woke up feeling dizzy; we took her BP and it was low. Constant aches and pains.

We were able to get away for our first vacation last week (since she went into the hospital). Nice to spend a little time on the beach.
Your strength has been epic. You both deserve time on the beach. .

We have passed the one-year anniversary of the beginning of our ordeal. Now we are marking the dates and reliving events. One year ago this evening (10/24), Steph had her first cardiac arrest. Today we are celebrating LIFE and our great God’s healing.

The progress now comes very slowly, if at all. Steph’s lungs are fibrous from the Covid damage, and we don’t know if they will heal further. She ordinarily goes to pulmonary rehab twice/week, though she’s had to skip a few sessions, as we both had chest colds for a while (her first sickness since being ambulatory – that doesn’t count the MRSA, etc. that she had when she was just learning to get out of the hospital bed). Thankfully, she’s off the prednisone now. We had weaned her off of it once, but she felt like she had reverted back to her conditions in the “bad place” – fatigue, shortness of breath, nerve pain…

But, good news, we took our first vacation since it all began! Spent several days in Panama City Beach (three weeks ago now), which was a great little getaway and recharge. Steph didn’t want to be feeling the pain on our vacation, so she went back on the prednisone for the duration. But since returning home, we weaned her off of it again, and she seems to be doing better this time. She continues to see various specialists every week, to try and get to the bottom of her myriad health issues. One day at a time!

May God continue to hold you on the path that you and Steph are on. Cherish each day and experience that comes your way.

Great news. We lived in Panama City when I was at Tyndall AFB and its a great place for a vacation

Glad you had fun and got a little break from the rough row you have been through

Gods blessings

On October 24, 2020, after the Huskers lost to Ohio State, Steph had her first cardiac arrest (no, the two events were NOT related, as she wasn’t conscious during that game – I’m just setting up the story). Her second cardiac arrest was in the early morning hours on November 3 (down for 45 minutes). As we passed the first anniversary of that event on Wednesday, I keep thinking back to what was probably the darkest day of my life. Standing next to her, with her collapsed lung, both lungs leaking oxygen into her body, which was bloated to the limit with the O2 from the respirator. Praying and reading psalms to her, with her family on Zoom; everyone saying their final goodbyes (we thought).

When there was nothing left to do but wait and pray, I left the hospital to go get some rest. Coming back a couple hours later, what a change! There’s no medical explanation for it; God worked a miracle and began healing her lungs and body!

Fast forward to yesterday, as we’re watching this year’s NU vs. OhSU game. Listening to Steph scream as we score a TD – brought up emotions of elation that I can’t even describe! She can’t yell nearly as loudly as she could before (and maybe she overdid it a little, as she unfortunately was doing some extra coughing this morning), but I’m just so thankful for how far she’s come in the last year!

These are the most important victories than the actual outcome of the game. Continued thoughts and prayers.

He still has you both in the palm of his hand. Continue to enjoy each day's blessings on this journey!
