Reevaluation John Cook As Head Coach

Sure, he's won two national titles, but their can be no disputing the amount of underachieving Nebraska's volleyball teams have under Cook since the last national title.

The amount of talent he has in the program isn't matching the results on the court. When is the last time Nebraska's performance in the tourney has equaled or exceeded its seed?

Its also discouraging that several of his teams since 2006 have ended up as basket cases at the end of the year.

Some, if not most may disagree, but what can't be disagreed upon is the underachievment with the high level of talent Cook underneath him.

You can see how much more powerful some teams are compared to NU. NU seems to be best at finding/hitting open spots, when they cant, they get beat (like tonight)

seriously?

please tell us who would be better in the job that Cook? It's a highly competitive sport - we lost to the overall #5 seed (I think we may have been overseeded as a #4). We've lost to a tough Washington team on their home floor in the regionals. Last season was a disappointing upset to be sure; but, that happens in the NCAA basketball tourney all the time.

Last year's defending champ and overall #7 seed UCLA lost to Michigan State in the second round.

Things happen. This was a great team that was able to beat several powerhouse teams throughout the season, including Penn State.

You need some luck to win championships in any sport. I don't think we should send anyone packing who is pretty much always knocking on the door.

Why do so many people feel that if a coach isn't winning national championships, that it's time to get rid of them? Say what you want about other coaches, but to even think about replacing Cook in my opinion is crazy. The Big 10 is arguably the toughest V-ball conference in the country. Last year Cook led the team to a conference title. This year they tied for 2nd place. The team lost last night 1 game short of the final four. Virtually every program out there would kill for the success Cook has had. It's ok to be disappointed after a loss but everything needs to be kept in perspective.

It was a tough loss to be sure. Cook not the guy? As disappointed as I am, that suggestion has no basis. Michigan not a top 16 seed yet takes out number 2 seed Stanford. The PAC and BIG are awfully tough conferences. Let's be very glad we have a coach who can compete with both.

I am still pretty new to Husker Max, but as I understand it, when you are joking you are supposed to use a smily face. Maybe it just did not show up. If this were not a joke, than a warning to the space alien who occupied the body of Fromunda Cheese, give him back or you will face the entire Husker Max membership!!!!

As for the volley ball team, my greatest disappointment is that the seniors, especially Hannah, don't get the experience of the final four. Otherwise, I want to celebrate this team for playing hard, finishing second, and giving the fans some incredible wins (over UCLA and Penn State, example). I am looking forward to next year.

Let's look at it this way: we played 3 of the fiinal four teams and our record:

PSU: 1-1
Michigan: 1-1
Oregon: 0-1

So we were 2-3 against the last 4 standing. Do we want to be one of those four? Sure we do and we don't want it anymore than Cook and his coaches and his players. It is a very tough landscape these days in women's volleyball. We will be there again and with Cook leading the way.

I'm not sure that NU has great talent. I think we have some very good players, but we don't seem to have the completely dominating players that teams like Penn St., Oregon, and even Minnesota (Daly Santana) have.

Fromunda:

why don't you go off on Stanford's coach too?

they lost to an unseeded team last night.
