Randy Gregory

Sorry to hear about your friend. Sounds like he/she has a crappy doctor. A doctor is supposed to not only prescribe treatment, they also should follow up on the treatment. If the treatment isn't working the doctor should either alter the dosage, recommend a different medication, or cancel the medication entirely and try something else. Also, I mentioned that therapy is a big part of this. Anxiety and depression are often just as much psychological as they are physical problems. Thus psychiatric care is often just as important as medication.

Hope your friend gets better and maybe finds a better doctor and/or psychiatrist who can help. It helped my sister, that's for sure.

There's the fallacy. Bad doctor, not the right meds, not the right doses. It's like a kids science experiment gone wrong only there is an actual person at the other end of the 'This will do it' BS. While modern medicine is an amazing, lifesaving, life altering thing for the vast majority of people, some do not respond as intended. Some are worse off on the medication than without.

This individual has been to multiple doctors, been given legal drug after legal drug, had doses increased, decreased, meds combined with other meds and all with side effects that were at least as bad as the anxiety. This took place over years, not just a few months or a few doctors visits. Decades to be precise. Years of myself and others in their inner circle suggesting counseling and/or psychiatric treatment and they finally had their GP tell them 'Medication isn't the answer' and they listened. Off to the first psychiatrist and after one session of Q&A he goes straight to new meds. Awesome. More side effects, but we'll just adjust them because I'm so much smarter than your other docs who can't figure this puzzle out. Counseling without meds and with a counselor who'd suffered through similar issues helped, but only to the point that constant medication isn't required and they're not considering suicide. They can't work anymore. They're a shell of what they once were and they have the same shallow minded thought process about cannabis that many on this board do. 'It's illegal'. 'I'm not a druggie'. Great. The continued decline was/is related to year after year of failed treatment. Failed new wonder drugs. Failed adjustments and increased side effects. It's a horrific, painful thing to watch and I wish they'd just try someone other than modern medicine.

I apologize if this comes off as attacking, because it's not. It's frustration. The frustration of seeing someone who was a vibrant, amazing, adventurous person crippled by conventional medicine and their own body. I don't know if Gregory is in that same situation. I certainly hope not, but if he is, he should have access to alternatives and if cannabis works and he's able to function well in society and live a full life, he should be able to use it. For some one scribbled note on a prescription pad is all it takes and their life is back to normal. For some.

Anxiety and depression are all in your head. ;)

those 'legal' drugs working "wonders" are also cause of great concern. legal in no way means they're always good/better. I'm not pro pot as i believe the laziness that comes with it is hard to argue. i can maybe come up with 2 people i know that smoke that actually work to make life better. the rest....you guessed it, depend on the rest of us to do it for them. however, the "legal" wonders have put more than 1 friend of mine in the grave not to mention the lasting effects that are not publicized ...err i mean known. too each there own i guess because no matter which way you slice it there are negatives

ALL drugs have side effects.

Agreed that some “legal” drugs are at least as bad as marijuana. It’s not my thing, but I know quite a few people who partake regularly and are productive members fo society. It helps them with anxiety, chronic pain, etc. While I’m sure there are plenty of users that still fit the stereotype, I’m pleased to see that the stigma appears to be slowly lifting.

I feel for RG. While I would like him to be disciplined enough to not use marijuana, I also have come to realize that all the discipline in the world does not do anything for anxiety in some people. And trying to apply logic to anxiety is folly. Hopefully he has a good therapist and is able to find a way to work through his anxiety and play great football.

Good for him.

He seems best suited for the 'Pass rush specialist' role, rather than being an every down player, but he did play well last year.

I don't know how he's managing his anxiety issues right now, but I hope for his sake the NFL drops marijuana from it's 'banned' list. He may be 100% right now, but I'd hate to see all his hard work and perseverance be erased because of something that's legal in a lot of places and headed toward legal everywhere. He may have put that behind him though.
You know why they're going to remove the astroturf from Memorial Stadium? Because they figured out JR runs better on grass... 1972 wisdom... of course JR only played varsity on astroturf , at least at home...

It’s not addictive physically, but is more of a habit. It was his coping mechanism.

With Randy, I’m not sure his weight is the issue. He’s a guy who seems to have a hard time focusing and grinding on every play. That has improved, but I still wonder if they don’t try to limit his snaps and ‘save’ him for more passing downs.
Psych addition can be just as convincing as physical addiction. There are much better ways to handle and manage anxiety. Personally I don't care if they legalize it or not but I'm not a fan of the long term outcome (feels the same way about ETOH and tobacco). I also don't believe people should go to jail or lose their jobs by using it. But its not harmless and it does more to the brain than just manage anxiety. That said, there are worse things to worry about in this culture with meth, heroin, fentanyl and barbiturates taking over the streets. Those are the killers and destroyers of people and families.

My sister suffers from panic attacks. There are ways of dealing with these things that don't involve illegal substances. There are legal medications and therapy that work wonders. I would think someone making the kind of money Gregory is making could afford it.
Let's not forget, and I'm not saying this is your sisters case, that a lot of these medicines for anxiety are HIGHLY addictive physically and mentally and can cause overdose deaths like xanax, ativan, valium, etc. People have seizures when they stop taking them suddenly. I'm not a big pot guy, but if it worked for someone over those "legal" drugs I'd say go for it.
