According to what I've read, athletic spending is breaking most D1 schools. Donations have shifted to NIL that goes to ballers instead of endowments, ever-increasing student fees are going to pay for ballers, better facilities, and so on. Yes, the Big 10 and SEC rake in more cash than the other P2s, but the money isn't helping. Every Big 10 university posted an athletics deficit last year. All while many of these schools are making draconian cuts to actual education endeavors. Eliminating majors, laying off faculty, putting off capital improvements.
So yeah, I'd say everyone needs relief. Big tail wagging a little dog by now. I am all about college sports, but when one conference is posting a $750-ish million combined deficit for a single year, I think we've long since breached the threshold of reasonableness. These schools are primarily for educating our nurses, doctors, business men and women, teachers, scientists, researchers, lawyers, and so on. Let's get back to that. If we need Congress to fix it, so be it.
I will admit I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but on the other hand, it doesn't take a lot of critical analysis to figure out our higher education system is in deep dookie due to funding pro sports.

Absolutely. Most programs in FBS are running huge deficits, and it shouldn't be that way. One would think that, at least in the two richest conferences, programs would be solvent. They are not. It is an arms race that leads to nowhere. This is a bubble that needs to pop.

So do you want Congress to step in and set limits as to how much colleges can spend on sports?
Should NIL deals have some sort of cap to limit spending? If so who governs that?
As a means to cut costs should we forget the free market system and go with something where everyone gets the same thing?
While cutting costs would be nice, I have a feeling it will be very complicated and full of lawsuits.
Regardless what may or may not be passed…I think the genie is out of the bottle and players/agents will be lawyering up and suing regardless whatever rules are put into place.

I don't have a solution, but I am hoping someone does. For me to name a solution would be like asking me to treat your cough. I might see that you are obviously ill, but that doesn't mean I know a cure.
