1st half we ran an uptempo Offense and were hiking the ball with approximately 15 seconds on the play clock and keeping USC on their toes. 2nd half we spent more time playing with ourselves and had delay of game penalties and barely got the ball off and USC smoked us. ****** Shawn.......er I mean Tim Beck?! Changes at half are a good thing, but not when what we were doing was not only working, but absolutely wearing on USC.

1 penalty in the first half. 20 penalties in the 2nd? With 4 coming from 1 dang drive?! What. The. Heck. Happend? Halftime mental trauma?:wow:

Dennard. I think Jeffery was the instigator in the situation, and if Dennard wouldn't have thrown a punch, Jeffery would've been the sole ejection. What the heck got into Dennard?! You were winning the battle with Jeffery!

O-line. Yoshi. I really like Yoshi, but where the heck was his head? I think I counted 5 false starts by him today (correct me if I'm wrong). No focus whatsoever. How many times was our ball carrier running into our O-linemen in the backfield, when they weren't even blocking anyone?!:banghead:

As usual, Burkhead was money. Why did we stop giving the ball to him?

Martinez. Wow. Tale of two halves. Either he is on or he is WAY OFF. I don't think we can justify leaving him in the game as our QB anymore. He costs us more than he helps. He hasn't had any breakout runs since last year, so where is his upside? I understand there may be a change in philosophy with Martinez play this year vs what Watson had him doing last year, but damn. This kid is NOT a QB. Decision making is par, throwing is under par, and his running ability has decreased significantly over the season. And what the heck is up with falling down/sliding 5 yards away from anyone? Oh, and why does he run standing straight up?

All in all, I think the D played about how I expected them to play. Not playing lights out and not giving up the big plays (other than the fluke hail mary at the end of the half). Bo's "bend but not break" philosophy is not my idea of defense, but if our Offense could've produced in the second half it would've been sufficient. :2cents:

Lavonte David. What is there to say about him? One of the biggest stud LB's to EVER play at Nebraska. Good luck in the NFL Lavonte! I hope we can replace him.............

Gonnabe a LLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG off-season.........................

I don't see either man getting the penalty or ejection if Dennard doesn't throw the punch. They were allowing the hand checking all game to that point. Yoshi was off today. I really hope we see another alternative at qb next year. Have 2 guys alternate series or whatever. This is getting frustrating to see the potential and not much results or even opportunity.

I kinda wonder the same thing with the offensive playcalling! Is Bo telling beck through the headset to go vanilla or is beck afraid of bo?

Dennard wasn't winning the battle. Dude had 148 yards and a TD at half time. Dennard was frustrated and on an undisciplined team, that leads to high emotions and stupid mistakes... Like throwing punches.

Half of those yards and the TD was a fluke Hail-Mary pass. That can't really be on Dennard IMO.

And, the other 78 was on a single play...you knew Dennard would get beat on at least one play because the WR is just that good. I really just hoped that it would happen in a situation where someone would be in position to help.

Regarding the statement:

He had a great run today when Clowney crashed down on Burkhead instead of covering the QB.

Let's be honest here...we played a very good team that is highly rated defensively. That team made good adjustments and good plays when needed. Our O-line started to get manhandled as the day went on when we need it to work the other way around.

I think that the no-call on the punt return tripping the guy from behind followed immediately by the phantom interference gave them the TD and cushion that they needed to pull away. The announcers stated the same thing I was thinking about dropped balls...say what you will about Martinez (I admit that he does need to ditch the ball more than he does); but, he had three on target passes dropped today in critical situations. Other than the INT and one or two other throws, I didn't think he was too far off today.

First season with new O-Coordinator. Pelini's recruits now starting to be the major players as depth builds. We've shown we can beat good teams...now we need to get more consistent and stop shooting ourselves in the foot.

Calling for a firing or second guessing the coaches on QB decisions is short-sighted. A coaching change just sets us back (again). And, it has long been known that the backup QB is frequently the fan favorite when things aren't going as well as we'd like. New conference, new O-coordinator, injuries at key positions (without enough depth)...

I didn't like the second half of today's game, but still feel good about the direction.

Looked to me like Jeffrey did the first of the pushing and shoved a hand up under Dennard's facemask first. That said, Dennard should not have reacted like he did. But again I say...you can tell 'em and tell 'em but in the end the players make their own choices on the field.

Puff, puff, pass....;)

Yes, I like the direction:
