"Green really looked like a man on a mission. He started with a 10-0 tech over 15-seed Jackson Arrington of NC State before beating 7-seed Paniro Johnson of Iowa State via 10-0 tech in the quarters. Johnson is currently on Team USA’s U23 World Team at 70 kg. Incredibly, both matches lasted exactly 3 minutes, 23 seconds.

In the semis, Green took on 3-seed Jordan Oliver, a current Bellator fighter who has had a lot of success on the freestyle scene. In that match, Green held a 4-0 lead at the break before prevailing 6-3 to move on to the best-of-three final series against 1-seed Alex Pantaleo."
Green was shot out of a cannon in his first match against Pantaleo, earning the 10-0 tech in just 49 seconds. The second match of the series was much closer between these two, but Green came out victorious via 2-1 decision with all three points coming from shot-clock points."

2nd-Seed James Green (Nebraska WTC) - 1st (5-0)
Rd. of 32 - Bye
Rd. of 16 - 10-0 3:23 VSU over Jackson Arrington

"Burroughs went on to beat current Penn State wrestler and NCAA Champion Levi Haines 4-1 in the quarters before a 7-4 win over 3-seed Alex Dieringer, a former three-time NCAA Champion and Hodge Trophy winner. And of course, there were more double-legs in that match too."

"In the best-of-three final, Burroughs faced a familiar foe in Chance Marsteller. This is the third year in a row that Burroughs took on Marsteller in the three-match series with Burroughs winning two matches to one in 2022 and Marsteller winning 2-1 in 2023. In the first match, Burroughs used a first period takedown and his elusiveness to secure the 3-0 win. In the second match, things were tied 1-1 late in the second period when Burroughs hit a double on Marsteller, who threatened with a chest wrap. Burroughs powered through for the four-pointer while Marsteller scored two on a head pinch, but it wasn’t enough. Burroughs held on to win the match 6-3."

2nd-Seed Jordan Burroughs (Pennsylvania RTC) - 1st (5-0)
Rd. of 32 - Bye
Rd. of 16 - 13-0 VSU 2:13 over Sam Beckett
Quarters - 4-1 VPO1 over Levi Haines
Semis - 7-4 VPO1 over Alex Dieringer
Finals Round One (Best of 3) - 3-0 VPO over Chance Marsteller
Finals Round Two (Best of 3) - 6-3 VPO1 over Chance Marsteller

"Robb downed 5-seed Gunnar Hamre 8-0 via tech in the quarters before taking on 1-seed Benjamin Peak in the semis. Despite battling tough, Robb fell to Peak via 11-1 tech late in the second period.

Moving down to the consolations, Robb downed 12-seed Charles McKune via 8-0 tech in just 1:04 in the consolation semis. In the 3rd-place match, Robb beat 3-seed Hunter Lewis via 8-0 tech in just over two minutes. Outside of his loss to the eventual World Team member in Peak, Robb beat his other four opponents by a combined score of 32-0 and spent just 4:19 on the mat in those wins."

4th-Seed Peyton Robb (Nebraska WTC) - 3rd (4-1)
Rd. of 16 - 8-0 VSU 0:19 over Justin Feldman
Quarters - 8-0 VSU 0:53 over Gunnar Hamre
Semis - Defeated by Benjamin Peak 11-1 VSU1 5:02
Cons. Semis - 8-0 VSU 1:04 over Charles McKune
Third Place - 8-0 VSU 2:03 over Hunter Lewis

"Next stop for these two is Tirana, Albania on Oct 28-31 for the World Championships. Of the four wrestlers going to Worlds (61 kg, 70, 79 and 92), half of them are former Huskers. That’s pretty crazy."

"The Nebraska Wrestling Training Center — the Huskers’ Senior-level training center headed up by Olympic Medalist Tervel Dlagnev — sent five guys to the US Open to compete, and they had a great Friday in Las Vegas.

Nebraska saw former three-time All-American Peyton Robb finish third in Greco-Roman while James Green and Liam Cronin both advanced to tomorrow’s finals in freestyle.

Overall, Nebraska’s wrestlers went 14-2 on Friday — their two losses were to significant favorites."

In GR Robb finished Third.
In FS Green will wrestle for FIRST.
In FS, Cronin will take on Penn State’s 1-seed Luke Lilledahl in the final on Saturday — the winner will advance to Final X to take on Olympic silver-medalist Spencer Lee in a best-of-three series for the World team spot at 57 kg.
Schultz will wrestle in Saturday’s consolation semifinal, but he’s now qualified for the World Team Trials with his Top-7 finish.
Lance will take on 7-seed Lucas Stoddard in his next consolation match on Saturday morning.

Nebraska Wrestlers in the mix:

57 kg

Kael Lauridsen: DNP

97 kg

Last year's U20 champion, Nebraska true freshman All-American Camden McDanel placed SECOND
Last year, McDanel won a US Open title and sat out to the best-of-three final at the World Team Trials — Rademacher went through the WTT Challenge Tournament before beating McDanel twice for the World Team spot — he went on to win bronze at Worlds. In 2023, McDanel earned a bronze medal at the U20 World Championships.

In Sunday’s final, McDanel struck first with a takedown in the first period, but Rademacher answered with a takedown of his own on a re-attack shortly after. McDanel then scored on a step-out and a lost challenge by Rademacher to go up 4-2, but Rademacher scored a late takedown and exposure to go up 6-4.

In the second, McDanel got in deep on a high-crotch shot, but Rademacher used great defense to sit and lift McDanel through with a crotch lock for two exposure points, increasing his lead to 8-4.

McDanel then scored a push-out point and a late takedown, cutting the deficit to 8-7. McDanel put on a high pace in the end, working for a takedown, but Rademacher was able to fend him off, holding on for the 8-7 decision win.
Cade Ziola (NU Recruit) placed THIRD.

Ziola won his first two matches via 10-0 tech before falling to Rademacher 10-5. Ziola fell to the consolation semifinal where he downed 3-seed Aiden Cooley 10-0 early in the second period. In the 3rd-place match, Ziola beat 11-seed Quinlan Morgan 11-1 via tech as well. Outside of the Rademacher loss, Ziola outscored his opponents 41-1 in his four wins.

U17 DIVISION

1-seed Noah Bull (2026 commit)

6th Place (Due to what looked like a dislocated shoulder, Bull was forced to injury default out of the match and medically forfeit the remainder of the tournament, finishing in 6th place.)

65 KG

"Notable U17 Standouts
The state of Nebraska saw a few standouts this weekend in the cadet ranks.

A freshman for Creighton Prep, Cruzer Dominguez went 5-2 and finished in 5th place at 51 kg. Also from Creighton Prep, JT Smith finished third in Greco-Roman and sixth in freestyle at 92 kg — he could be one of Nebraska’s top in-state targets.

Also placing was Preston Wagner of Fremont at 110kg — he took fifth in Greco while going 2-2 in freestyle. A double Fargo All-American last year, Wagner has also visited Nebraska. He could be a nice addition for Nebraska at heavyweight — he has good size and moves pretty well.

Also impressing this weekend but failing to find the podium were Cole Caniglia of Creighton Prep and Brody Jensen of Burwell. Both state champions this past year, Caniglia went 4-2 at 51 kg while Jensen went 3-2 at 55 kg."

Nebraska Will Be Well Represented at U20 and U23 World Team Trials

"Nebraska will have nine current and future Husker wrestlers competing this weekend at the U20 and U23 Freestyle World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio. The freestyle portion of the tournaments will start on Saturday, May 31 and will conclude on Sunday, June 1.

Nebraska will have two guys in the U20 field and seven more in the U23 tournament. The winners will represent Team USA at their age-level world championships this fall.

As it stands, two Huskers — LJ Araujo and Omar Ayoub — have already punched their tickets to compete at the U20 World Championships for other countries. Araujo will be competing for Brasil at 79 kg, while Ayoub will compete for Puerto Rico at 61 kg. Araujo won a U20 world bronze medal last year at 79 kg for Brasil, while Ayoub just won the Puerto Rico World Team Trials. Both guys redshirted this past season and will compete for starting spots this fall."
