Portal News

Replying to myself, apparently Stafford of Pitt has surprised everyone and entered the portal. I am not suggesting Nebraska is a possible destination, but a first team all American 6 rotation OH will cause every team in the country to check on her interest.
If she is interested in Nebraska, I am sure John Cook will take her call. I don't see it happening though. We have both starting OHs back, along with two highly touted freshmen behind them.

There are plenty of other good programs who are in dire need of a terminal OH. Texas, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Louisville come to mind. My guess is it will be one of those four.

With Murray, Landfair, Pierce and Sigler, no way we would add an OH like Hudson or Chicone. We made a run at the lefty opposite from Miami — Lopez — but she chose Wisconsin. As of now, I don’t think the portal had/has any other opposite NU is interested in. The May window may cause a change, but right now it looks like The Huskers will not take a transfer — unless they get transfers out after spring. The competition for opp will likely be incoming frosh Hunter, and one of the current OHs.
NU isn't interested in the Baylor OPP? Szech i believe?

Agreed, though can you imagine if we had her and Harper as OHs for the next two years? You couldn’t pass that up even though it would likely send a new recruit somewhere else. The problem every top team is facing now, do I recruit over my top recruits by going in the portal if I have an unreal opportunity to do so? Glad that is not my decision.

I think Nebraska would have a conversation with her. They would explain that they have Hunter and several outsides competing for the opposite position next fall, and there is no guarantee she will get playing time. If, like Blackwell this year, she is just looking for a positive experience and a possible championship run, she might be interested. If she is looking for more certainty in playing time, I think she would pass. But I think Nebraska would take her for depth if she was willing.

Maybe. Or maybe they wait until May when the portal opens up again to see if anyone better is available. I also wonder why Cook never seems to recruit foreign players. Teams like Wisconsin, Miami, and Georgia Tech thrive on foreign players.

I mention this because in international play the OPP position is considered the most important position, as compared to US collegiate play where the OH position is where the elite players play. It would make sense to look abroad for elite OPP players.

Anyway, as of right now I am guessing the OPP position battle will be between incoming freshman Ryan Hunter and RS freshman Skyler Pierce. I have no idea how this will go, but both are highly touted recruits so hopefully one of them will end up being good enough to replace Beason.

Purdue just got hit hard with 4 entry's:
Chloe Chicoine (Sophomore Outside Hitter): A two-time All-Big Ten selection and third-team All-American as a freshman. 22 kills against NU this year (Would look great in Husker red)

Eva Hudson (Junior Outside Hitter): A star player with a .287 hitting percentage and 4.81 kills per set in the 2024 season, Hudson was named Midwest Region Player of the Year and earned All-Big Ten first-team honors.

Lourdes Myers (Redshirt Sophomore Middle Blocker): With one year of eligibility remaining, Myers appeared in 21 matches in the 2024 season, averaging 1.12 kills and 0.9 blocks per set while hitting .301.

Lizzie Carr (Redshirt Sophomore Middle Blocker): Carr, a 6-foot-6 middle blocker, played in 40 matches over two seasons,
Where did they end up?

Hudson is going to Kentucky. Chicoine is going to Louisville. I don't know where the other two are going. It is also important to note that Purdue's star 2025 recruit, Aniya Warren, dropped her commitment and is now going to Wisconsin. Purdue is just getting crushed right now.

RATS!

So, will DBK be bringing any of her star players to NU? Now that the scholie limit has been raised to 18, we seem to have room.

Pretty sure Dani generates team loyalty in the same way John has. I'd be surprised if any player from either team wants to move. I think to portal is open for 30 days to teams whose coaches leave/transfer.
