Pop Gun: Maverick

I don’t particularly care for Tom Cruise either, but Top Gun Maverick was an awesome movie. BTW, Tom Cruise does fly fighter jets, and is capable of doing the flying he did in the movie. I would not be surprised to learn he was his own stunt man in that movie.

I did not realize that.

I flew for a living, but not like that.

Color me envious.

I really enjoy this movie.

Can't stand the real life Tom Cruise...................but a very good movie in my opinion.

What I really liked were the shadows on the canyons in the flying scenes. Upped the realism factor.

God I would have loved to have been one of those pilots.

It's a good solid action movie without all the woke stuff we see in movies nowadays. This is the type of movie people like to see despite what people in Hollywood think.

Tom Cruise is weird as all get out, but he makes good entertaining movies. The mission impossible movies are also good solid entertainment without some sort of "message" of all the "injustices"of the world being put into it.

Cruise plays alot of kind of the same guy, just in different movies, or at least that's what I thought his limits were until he really showed his acting chops in Tropic Thunder. His ability to seemlessly transform into a short, old, bald fat guy was epic!

Top Gun Maverick managed to still include female and minority pilots/characters without making it a "thing." They were just people being good at doing their jobs. I think that's how most of us view others... just as people.

I was really pleased with this movie.

Exactly, they had a diverse cast and didn't make a big deal about it.

Yup! They didn't Pop off about wokeness. It was truly a POP GUN of a movie.

Will have to look that one up.

Haven't seen it.

It has probably been cancelled. There are so many reasons that movie would not be made today, but it is funny as hell.

Edit- and I was being completely sarcastic in my previous comment about Tom Cruise and his acting chops in Tropic Thunder although he is great in it.

I finally watched it last night.
Even though it relied on nostalgia and throwbacks to the first movie, It was better than I expected it to be. Really enjoyed it. The realism and live action was amazing.

The only kind of shake my head moment was after they take the F-14 they are suddenly in an area with no snow?

Still, I watch it every time I see it on.

I actually watched both of them again last night, to compare and confirm some of the throwbacks and flashbacks. Like how "Penny Benjamin"s name was actually mentioned twice in the first movie (the Admiral's daughter to which he had a history of making "high speed passes").

When rooster and mav were in the dogfight near the end of the movie, and rooster desperately says, "come on mav, do some of your pilot shyt", I thought it was kind of cheesy. But then I saw that goose says the exact same thing in the first movie.

Also, I never before realized how often mav says, "talk to me goose" in the first movie BEFORE goose is killed. I had always thought it was a cheesy line and that he was literally trying to get Goose's spirit to give him some kind of sign, but it was really more of a habit/superstitious/reflexive behavior that brings him comfort/confidence during stressful moments (kind of like "turn and burn", which is said often in both movies) although maybe a sign too would be nice...

The first movie was pretty good, but I'm thinking the sequel might be better. The visuals and camera shots are much better, multiple storylines (mav, ice, rooster, penny), better dialogue, better acting, resuscitation of an F14, and of course a soundtrack with songs from 80s is always good...
