Put the donor’s name or business or whatever the hell they want on the player they paid for’s back.

Hmmm. Maybe not so far-fetched. A lot of donated academic “chairs” and even coaching positions (in the Ivies and Stanford, etc.) exist. Think the John and Joan Smith Dean of Engineering Chair at ____ University. The donation basically covers the expense of the position. In perpetuity.

So, the John and Joan Smith Long Snapper at the University of Nebraska?

Crazy how does this University have millions to pay coaches that do not work here, but no money to pay players that will play here?

Rhule has said this before, but it bears repeating: desperate teams set the market. A team can overpay for any one player/position. But it means they have less of the 20M (or however they divvy the amount at their school) for the rest of the roster. Nebraska shouldn’t be expected to win every bidding war if they are operating sensibly.

The ‘bonus’ to those dollars is the REAL NIL opportunities like an Adidas contract or Amigo’s commercials, etc, but it has to be able to pass the clearing house as legit market value (for now, until that process gets challenged legally). But for watching the portal activity this season, Nebraska seems to me to have a smart business-like approach.

Yep, on the On3 forums those guys are completely clueless. They’re complaining about us losing out on all sorts of guys thinking we just can’t close the deal. They’re not going to overpay for anybody, we have significantly more money, but I think Rhule is wanting to use it smartly. Hoping it’s simply just them identifying talent that’s at lower levels that can produce at a discount. The On3 guys only want P4 contributors and that’s it, all else means we aren’t a serious program.

Interested to see who they get. Seems the OL and DL are where they’re willing to spend and that’s was proven by getting an unproven QB at a discount instead of a star at $4-$5 million
