Being the communications officer of the B1G should be an interesting job these days. The B1G, home of Penn State, Michigan State, and now Northwestern would give any spin doctor a very challenging head ache.
Like I said . . . would be interesting to see what details come out.
Sounds like there is some pushback, though? Guessing no matter what, the uni thought the optics (whether fully true or exaggerated at this point) were unrecoverable to have Fitzgerald stay. Does seem at least a tad suspicious that none of this came out til now. Stranger things have happened, though.
“It is disheartening to see that the allegations brought forth against our team have been exaggerated and twisted into lies,” the statement read. “These fabrications have been made with the intention of harming our program and tarnish the reputation of our dedicated players and coaching staff. We firmly deny the validity of these accusations and stand united in our assertion that they do not reflect the true character of our team.”
The players also said they didn’t believe Fitzgerald had any knowledge of acts of hazing.
“Throughout his tenure, Coach Fitzgerald has consistently prioritized the well-being and development of his players, and we stand behind him in his unwavering commitment to our team,” the statement read. “Our team remains committed to our Head Coach and upholding the values of Northwestern University and fostering a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment for all.”

NW had no choice but to fire Fitz once that student article went out. There was no coming back from that...

A lot of power, to be sure. That is why independent corroboration is so important - which the student article did appear to have.
Ther was an investigation already. They said he wasn't aware. The data probably existed that led to this. If any of it was true whether he knew or not.....out.
The football team letter was a joke. Some of those people if true are guilty of sexual assault. Think they want to admit to that?
It makes me wonder if it was so rampant as it's starting to seem then why has nothing come out sooner? Not saying what being accused didn't happen, just has a weird timing/vibe to it.
